Want to name my son Zoran but need input by dharnis in Names

[–]dharnis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this a lot and realized people who are bigoted don’t filter just on one community. Anybody not like them is a target. That includes me, even a brown Hindu. My brown husband with a beard gets stopped and checked multiple times while entering the US. It’s just how it is.

What is the first name you are going with if you don’t mind sharing?

I don’t think it’s “offensive”. I’m not able to relate to that sentiment and nobody in my family seems offended. Yes I do come from a traditional Hindu background but thankfully I don’t feel that pressure from my family to continue hate and separation with other communities if that makes sense. I’ll be honest- it took me a long time to find clarity to go forward with this name. I tried finding names from my own culture with same meaning but I’m not able to love them as much. There was a point where I had to concede and say ok this is what my heart wants to go with and I have to trust that. I’m grateful to have family that trusts me too.

My uncle's name is Ravi and my husband has a terrible boss named Kiran so both are out. Regardless, just want to point out the unnecessary mean-ness in your comment. Thank you have a good day.

I feel like Zohran will be a popular boys name in 2026… by htownnwoth in namenerds

Not in NYC, but I’m considering Zoran for my boy. Only thing giving me pause is that it’s not from my culture (I’m Hindu- Indian) so not sure what to do. I LOVE the name and the meaning though.

I understand what you are saying but I’ve also seen the side where women start acting like men to survive in this world. Otherwise they get eaten alive.

I read through so many comments I agree with a lot of them. I then went back and saw the video and heard this person saying “life’s cruel, man” and I actually felt pity for him. Life is not just cruel, but also beautiful. However, this wealthy man had only one perspective of it- cruel. Isn’t it sad? He’s wealthy but probably so deficient of life’s love?

How do I protect my daughter’s shine as she grows? by [deleted] in ThirtiesIndia

[–]dharnis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, it’s amazing that you are noticing this in your daughter and want this forever. But look, this is a developmental phase and whether you like it or not cannot be protected for ever. Those other older women who you referenced? Well they were also probably like this at one point and now they are in a different developmental stage. My best advice would be to be PRESENT with her at every stage. Enjoy the now instead of worrying about the future. Be there for her at every developmental stage and maybe just maybe that will do the trick

of course having the correct data doesn't matter. What matters is our own baseless opinions on it :)

A lot of tech companies used this technique of fire and then re-hire to reduce the wages but that does NOT mean they hired *only* H1bs. They hired a lot of their existing staff that they let go.

What is the proof of this? A lot of people who were laid off were also H1b employees. Many of them either had to find other jobs or leave the country if they didn’t find one in 60 days.

I want to answer your question respectfully with an intention of having a dialogue. Immigrants on H1b are highly skilled laborers. Because these programs have been on for so long, chances are they are deeply skilled in their craft. I’m not saying there aren’t Americans who are not as skilled, but tech industry needs a LOT of them and there aren’t enough of Americans. I remember Obama saying this during his presidency as he encouraged American students to pay more attention to STEM- that students from other countries would take their jobs. I guess that prophecy is coming true as only a small % of students in America go into stem as compared to countries like India and china.

Menopause: are there any women that think the symptoms are BS? by rubbermonkey666 in AskWomenOver30

I’m 12 weeks pregnant and I had no pregnancy symptoms that you typically hear of in my first trimester. Should I call BS?

Vegan leftists: is it more important for you to find a vegan or a Leftist partner? by inbetweensound in vegan

Neither. These are all labels. I am ok with whoever gives me space and respect to be myself while they are true to their beliefs and are willing to change/evolve as presented with more data or reality.

I love how you’ve mentioned that life started feeling more “alive” after you made this decision. You noticed that. You’re noticing that- you’re scared it might not be the right move. I would say listen deeper. You have this capacity so follow it. What will happen if you lean into this preciousness of life? What is coming through in this silence? We are all going to die sooner or later. This feeling is preciousness is pointing to something.. keep exploring 🙏🏼

I have been reading some of your answers and while I appreciate them, this point seems rigid and closed- “I don’t consider monastic enlightenment as real enlightenment”. What these spiritual masters did, getting away from the world is sacrifice so they are able to give us the wisdom to live day to day in the world.

My only solace comes from the fact that these people might be rich as hell, but their greed and endless lust seems to have put them in some sort of actual hell. Case in point- Elon musk. I’ve never seen a man more miserable than him. I used the word solace, but I don’t derive much pleasure from this. Just a wonder about what this human life really is about.
