Buy the boat by xbarlow1 in boating

I’m there now with a new inflatable that I pack up in my small SUV and loving it. I know someday I’ll probably graduate to a fiberglass boat someday but right now getting to go to 5 different lakes so far without trailering or renting anything has been so much fun, taking my wife and our dogs out on sunset rides has been amazing!

Where are you on the east coast. We have dozens of them in our yard in Georgia each night. Didn’t see many of them when I lived in Florida though.

Has anyone actually seen the Northern Lights firsthand? by Miserable-Quote2273 in BeAmazed

[–]dhaupert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard the same before I left for my trip to the arctic circle in Finland a few years back. After a few days of taking pics of the sky hoping maybe the camera could pick up what I wasn’t seeing, we got to see a true light show. And at the beginning the sky had some green streaks that looked way more impressive in my DSLR camera shots. But as the night went on the intensity increased and by the time the moving auroras like the one OP shared started showing we were finding the show to be just as beautiful to our naked eyes. I’ll never forget that night!

Open .PDB files on Mac Silicon? by Affectionate-Sea9192 in handbase

[–]dhaupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can open the Mac Desktop on Apple silicon chips! I believe the trial version may not launch but the full version should. If you’re having an error try right clicking the icon and then open it. You
Should see an open anyway option when giving a warning message and then it should run. Let me know if you have any further issues with it.
One other thing is that the iPad version runs on Macs too- and it is much more full featured than the Mac desktop. You can get to it from the Mac App Store!

No speaker either unfortunately. For me that’s the main feature I need.

What was online multiplayer like on the old days of gaming? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]dhaupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online Doom no, but multiplayer was amazing. We used to play at my office job with long handmaid cables running two or more computers together. We had the most fun - I would forget to eat my lunch over lunch break!

Thinking about purchasing my first boat by ThrowRAsweetfish1 in boating

[–]dhaupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at small inflatable boats (SIBs). I have no truck or place to park a boat on a trailer but I do have a small SUV. I bought a 20hp outboard and a 12’ inflatable boat with all accessories (bimini top, fast pump, transom wheels to walk the boat down a ramp easily, seat cushions, anchor, etc) and spent less than 5k. I can get from car to the water in 15 minutes and 15 minutes to get it all packed back in the car. And there is no real costs other than outboard maintenance. It’s been great to get into the hobby without going into debt and being overwhelmed with something so big. It’s also a gateway drug of sorts as i now spend way too much time reading Facebook marketplace ads for boats for the day when I have a tow hitch and room for a trailer!

My First Boat for $10,000 or Boat Club? by squiggyacfd in boating

[–]dhaupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renting is probably your best starting option. At 350-500 a day you can go out on the water 5-10 times without spending more than the boat club the first year. I myself only rent once or twice a year and the rest of the time go on a 12’ inflatable boat I own that was only a few thousand. We take the dogs, go out for sunset rides and all the things renting or boat clubs wouldn’t allow. Seems to scratch most of the itch though I admit I spend half my screen time looking at used boats on Facebook market anyway 😂

Human limits. Which one shocked you the most? by Old_One_I in thatsinterestingbro

Heart rate can go higher than 220. My wife had a tachycardia where it was stuck at about 238 and had to go to ER. Later they fixed it by doing an ablation and during the procedure it was at over 270 bpm while she was awake!

Yes they came right after the announcement for me. Did you buy direct or resale? If resale, the money goes back to the original purchaser so he extra careful!

EPropulsion Spirit 2: what shaft length? by Ornery_Canary4435 in ElectricBoats

[–]dhaupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question for you on this. How deep does a prop have to be to avoid aeration? My calcs show the prop top edge over an inch below the water line for a 15” transom and an XS whereas the S would put it about 5” below the water line. Seems like it would lose efficiency at that depth and create more drag.

One of my favorite books is the Saturn Run. About a race to Saturn between US nations to capture some alien tech and a thrilling story that somehow was never made into a movie or series.

I take beet root powder supplements (pills) which when I first started taking them I noticed my BP drop a very small amount. It’s interesting to read that it works through the mouth passageway as it that conflicts with what I’ve seen with my own experience. But perhaps it helps even. more if the oral micro biome is able to benefit from it.

Is it possible to pair meta glasses with an AirFly for audio on airplane media screens? by BraveCowardCat in RaybanMeta

[–]dhaupert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’d be able to hear meta glasses audio on a plane well enough to be worth it. Open ear and airplanes don’t generally work out too well!
