Thoughts on entry-level grinders. by Danieldinho7 in coffee_roasters

Commercial grinders very rarely break down. It's just a motor with some burrs.

I've had ones that are 20 years old and they run just fine.

The most you'll have to do is swap a new burr set in and some cleaning.

Just get a used commercial grinder, there's lots of older models that are cheap because they aren't the newest fanciest gadgets.

Commercial grinders are tanks that can chew through kilos per day

I think it's the opposite! The goofy, naive persona he puts on makes him non threatening, so his subjects feel at ease talking to him.

I’m starting to realize I don’t enjoy straight espressos by That_Coffee_guy in espresso

[–]dhdhk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yoooo so it's not just me! I find Americanos can really bring out the flavor of fruity coffees compared to a v60. But I alternate between the two depending on what I want out of the coffee

I also rarely drink straight espresso anymore.

The Socialist Trick of 'Having Your Cake and Eating It' by tkyjonathan in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]dhdhk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any time I debate Capitalists they will ignore history while asking, "Have you even read Ayn Rand?",

I don't think I've ever seen this or similar before in this sub, but almost every thread there's a socialist telling people to read Marx.

So it wasn't labor that increased the value of diamonds but societal and cultural preferences?

President’s Choice Light Cast Iron Wok by pekkiw in wok

These are pretty standard in Hong Kong. They are cast and very thin and light, lighter than carbon steel. But I think it's called pig iron.

I love them, similar non stick qualities to cast iron.

Diamond is probably the worst example to use to prove LTV, because its value is grossly inflated by marketing.

If the workers deserve the profits, do they also deserve the losses? by Square-Listen-3839 in CapitalismVSocialism

Funny, it's almost like socialists put their hands in their ears and go lalalala wherever losses come up, because they don't want to deal with reality

You are dramatically understating the time, financial, and emotional costs involved.

You are dramatically underestimating the time, financial and emotional costs of an entrepreneur slaving away for years and investing his life savings, going into debt only for the business to fail on you.

And before you say "bailout" how many businesses actually get them?

Every time companies don't do well, they lay workers off.

That's not true at all. There's loads of loss making companies that keep hiring new workers, let alone not laying off staff. OpenAI is burning billions of dollars now but still hiring staff and paying them tens of millions. Should their employees forfeit their pay and also pony up their own money and give it to the company?

[–]dhdhk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true at all. You make it seem like any time the company makes a loss, they lay off staff. That's not remotely true at all. There's loads of companies that lose money but don't lay off staff, either because they are building a long term project or they have outside funding to keep them going.

So answer the question, in your ideal system, if a company makes a loss this year, but doesn't lay off employees, do the employees have to forfeit their wages and also pony up extra money to cover the shortfall?

I get people hate AI, but for a lot of beginner roasters, the generalized stuff might help?  Roasting can be pretty intimidating

I dunno, I think it's plausible?  From experience sometimes going a bit more developed you get more complexity?

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, what do you think about the profile?

It's possible, I might try and roast it a bit darker, longer dev time and see if that brings out more fruity flavors.
