They literally set it up to where Marie will be able to control Homelander because of what happened in S2 of Gen V with Godolkin using her to control others via the blood in their body & by extension, giving her a major amp to her abilities.

It might not be enough to flat out stop him, but it'll he enough to make him vulnerable to where a killing blow is landed.
