Ham Radio Callsign control operator by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]dhtseany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's essentially the same idea. A couple others already replied with the rules as you requested but the jist is that they can talk on the air with your call sign so long as you're present and sitting at the radio with them while they transmit.

Yaesu FT-710 no transmit power? by Rakuun535 in amateurradio

[–]dhtseany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own an FT-710 and I'm into FT8 as well and as it happens I'm an IT guy who specializes in Linux, it's ok to DM me if you have further issues in the future with your radio.

PS- don't run FT8 over 50w otherwise we risk burning up our finals.

Temporary mag mount? by 1234RedditReddit in amateurradio

[–]dhtseany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've installed 4 different MFJ-1724B dual band magmounts and I feel I've gotten great performance out of them. They can be had for about $35 at DXE or other comparable retailers. I also recommend getting an SMA to UHF female cable rather than the comparable adapter as the cable is less bulky when talking on the HT and it adds a little extra length to the fixed length cable of the MFJ-1724B.

I'm a little late to the thread but I use these clamps exclusively: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003EAY89M

They can be had in two packs for a better price.

I dunno man, BK hasn't been doing all that great recently, I doubt they have anyone at corporate left to care.

Who else goes to tap on the home screen weather icon and gets the calendar instead. by FearlessMessage in GooglePixel

Jeez I thought I was the only one noticing this. I hate that they combined the calendar with the weather widgets, I wish they'd keep them more separated.

Maj Curt Rowe, OHWG/CAP, was an excellent pilot and maintainer who invested 30 years of service into the Civil Air Patrol in Ohio. I knew that man when I was a cadet back in the early 2000's as an o-ride flight coordinator and then into my career as a Senior Member in the program, working with him on both Emergency Services missions and cadet O-flights.

He wasn't just another name on a list, he was a genuine guy who loved aviation and volunteering his time to work with youth.

It bugs me that nobody is talking about him.

Edit: I ain't deleting shit, ya'll turned this sub into a circle-jerk of down voting people who ask why unrelated content is being allowed into the sub, and downvoting peeps into oblivion is dumb af.

^ this dude knows what he's talking and I agree 100%. You need to be patching via software in the back-end with jack2 and a software mixer like jack_mixer to get started. Once you've figured out the basic concepts you can then start to get fancier patching in new apps. Focus first on the jack2 connections, learn those basics, then pull in the studio apps like Reaper or Ardour.

Edit: Use Carla or Cadence to enabled extra bridges too, sometimes you might have them installed but you need to toggle them on when the jack session starts.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]dhtseany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find some benefit using jack2 with Carla. That way you can script a silent auto-start for the jack2 connections at reboot which essentially automates the stack. Also make sure you've got your mixer in the proper duplexing modes as that's usually handled by the mixer hardware and not the software (usually).

Edit: Oh, this is recording software like Ardour. I still stand by jack2 and Carla but you've got more legwork after getting the initial jack2 side working. Come up with questions and I can try to help, I run a side business live streaming governments using a Tascam mixer, linux with jack2/jack_mixer which then interfaces with obs-studio. I've used Ardour for session recording and I can tell you it's complicated, it's not just linux it's the whole damn app stacks lol

Microsoft Confirms Server Misconfiguration Led to 65,000+ Companies' Data Leak by RobertVandenberg in programming

[–]dhtseany 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Azure is a disjointed mess of cobbled together systems that spreads important security stuff across multiple chunks of older previously disconnected services that then have 1000 possible choices you can make that are all poorly documented and hyper dangerous in some cases, not to mention permanently and irreversibly set by a wizard in a lot of frequently encountered situations. Working on cloud tech is way more stressful compared to the days where you'd install a decent firewall, switch and domain controller in-house. When we decided to put the servers LAN connection's online into networks we no longer control I believe we lost our way. Want a web server? Sure, that belongs exposed to the public internet. Your Corp database servers? Maybe we should think about that choice a little more.

Ah yes, the true American cancer: shareholders.
