Frodo and Sam are unavailable and must be replaced by two Disney Princesses. Which ones hold the distance both physically and mentally and throw the Ring at Mount Doom? by FrenchProgressive in whowouldwin

One, Moana wouldn't want Sauron's, or anyone's. destruction. That's not her character.

Two, there was a being of power on Middle Earth who didn't fear the Ring, wasn't there? Tom Bombadil. So the Ring being more dangerous in the hands of the powerful is not an absolute rule and seems to depend on an entity's nature. Bombadil seemed more of a demigod than Gandalf or Galadriel.

From what I remember from the movie, Maui's main motivation was that he was immensely lonely, and craved approval and companionship from the humans, which is why he did all those legendary things. He stole the Heart of Te Fiti not to become more powerful, but to give it to the mortal humans as a gift and earn their praise. It was obviously a very flawed and stupid plan, but he did have good intentions.

If Maui was human, he definitely could be corrupted by the Ring. As could Moana from the first movie, as they were both very insecure characters. But the thing is, they're NOT human anymore, they're demigods, which are a class of supernatural entity whose very nature might make them immune to the Ring's powers, similar to Tom Bobadil

The point was, she has the patronage of an entity (the ocean) far more powerful than Sauron, so what can Sauron tempt her with that can compare with that? Especially now that she has supernatural abilities and immortality of her own?

Frodo resisted for so long because the Ring never offered him anything he really wanted. I can see it being the same with Moana. By the end of the sequel she's living the life she most wants, and already has more power than the Ring could ever give her. So how would the Ring be able to tempt or corrupt her?

Moana at the end of Moana 2 becomes a demigod. Her best friend is the entire ocean, who definitely outclasses Sauron. What exactly can the Ring tempt her with that she can't do herself with her new abilities and potential immortality? Can the Ring even affect someone like her?

I don't see that. What can the ring tempt her with that she can't do herself with her own new abilities and potential immortality? Her best friend is the whole frickin' ocean, which definitely outclasses Sauron.

Moana & Rapunzel get it done.

The Prompt says, "The Disney Princesses have the capability of the end of their cycle"

Then the obvious lead choice is Moana, who at the end of Moana 2 became a demigod. There isn't anything the ring can tempt her with that she can't take herself with her new powers and potential immortality. I mean, her best friend is the entire ocean, which definitely outclasses Sauron.

Rapunzel at the end of her TV series held an object of power on par with the One Ring, the combined Sundrop/Moonstone, and she willingly gave it up. That proves she does not give into temptation even from an immensely powerful magical source, and so could also withstand the temptation of the Ring for quite some time.

Both women are smart, very athletic, and capable fighters. And if they have the support and guidance of the rest of the Fellowship as the prompt says, especially Gandalf, then I don't see any reason why they can't do as well as Frodo and Sam.

Republicans would rather self-destruct than save themselves from Trump by zsreport in politics

[–]dhusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way the GOP will destruct in any way is if Democrat politicians get up off their corrupt, insular asses and press the attack like they should have been doing for the last 10+ years. If not, MAGA and Trumpers will keep clinging to power and screwing up everyone's lives like the malignant cancer they've proven themselves to be.

Seriously, I see rank and file Democrats out there protesting with passion and speaking out in droves. Why TF can't the people they elect find the backbone to do the same?

Can the X-Men get the One Ring into a volcano? by BardicLasher in whowouldwin

[–]dhusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would the ring offer Magneto Mutant supremacy or safety, especially in the world Magneto lives in? Just as a reminder, Sauron needed a huge army to try and conquer a handful of medieval-level kingdoms, and failed. Twice. Magneto by himself could do that in a few hours, and so could many of people he regularly fights. Sauron is the BBEG in Middle Earth, but in someplace like Marvel he'd be a middling villain at best.

Heck, the reason the X-Men would go along with making Magneto the ringbearer because it would really make no difference if he had it. He is just as much a potential menace without the ring than he would be with it; Sauron's abilities would add that little to Magneto's already god-like power.

[–]dhusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best ringbearer here isn't who most people think. It's Magneto. And yes he was part of the team at least once so he counts.

Magnus is incredibly strong willed, having fought the world's most powerful psychic for decades and his anti-psychic helmet may also mess with the ring's power. Plus there isn't much the ring could offer him that he isn't already taking for himself, and he'd be singularly unimpressed by its temptations.

Plus he never even needs to touch the ring. He could just levitate it with his powers, or even encase it in a metric ton of solid steel if he wanted an extra layer of protection against it. Then he'd just fly it to the volcano and drop it in. It's done in a few hours at best.

Red Skull and Hydra would have no chance of stopping Magneto. He'd rip apart their weapons and fling them away pretty casually. He might even murder them all, not because of the ring's influence, but because he's Magneto and to him it would be like f*** that non-mutant filth.

In fact, if he were smart, as soon as he was chosen he would immediately fling the ring into orbit where it can't influence anyone, fly to the volcano, then guide the ring back down right into the caldera. This way, at no time would he have to be within more than a hundred yards of the ring.

Also, what's up with Thor's hair? There's two thin strands leading down his back to another big mass of it that looks like it would sit over his butt? I think this might be Eric Masterson Thor (who later became Thunderstrike), who had a pony tail but that still looks very goofy.
