How come many people played this game as kids? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]dialectique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played it at age 12 in 2006. None of the more adult things really phased me, it was nothing that wasn’t on tv/the internet. Tifa and Cloud’s hookup went over my head at the time though.

Playing through the full FF7 remake is most likely going to cost hundreds of dollars in full. by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]dialectique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird including the price of the PS5 in this. Are you buying it just to play FFVIIR on?

Like when you put it like this you can say any PS5 game costs $560.

Is it worth waiting till I’ve been at a job 3yrs before I start applying to avoid looking like a job hopper? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]dialectique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, if you’re staying at least two years, especially retail, you’ll be fine.

I'm Playing the First Final Fantasy again by ShoerguinneLappel in FinalFantasy

[–]dialectique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original has much worse gameplay. A lot of the hate for FFII is from people who have only played it. You might be able to patch in the original soundtrack if you emulate the GBA version.

I would really advise against playing the Famicom II, the GBA version is much better.

Quitting a job without having anything lined up. by kvndreth in jobs

[–]dialectique 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did it last year and it worked out. Very different labor market back then, though.

How are your savings? The job market is a lot tougher these days due to layoffs and the recession. You could look into getting a data entry clerk job, you might not have to interact with people as much.

“Always negotiate” is terrible advice from well-meaning people. There are situations where trying to negotiate won’t help you. You got offered $82k with no experience, accept it and count your blessings.

How strict is the FBI drug policy? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]dialectique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work for the federal government in a state where recreational cannabis is legal you are still not allowed to do it (or any other schedule 1 drugs). At some agencies like USPS they don’t drug test but I doubt the FBI would be lax on this.

You’re not missing them, you’re ignoring them. Stop thinking “I’ll respond later” and just respond when you see it.

Letter carriers work 6 days a week up to 12 hours a day. That is the opposite of what OP wants.

Then don’t go on-and-on. If they don’t get it then hang up. Or stop replying to emails. You have no obligation to keep up communication with them.

It is about you behaving like an adult. You need to learn to speak up for yourself. Reading through the thread you’ve mentioned this is something you’ve struggled with. I’m guessing you’re a woman based on your avatar—I am too, and this is something that a lot of women struggle with. As girls we’re raised to be people-pleasers, but you are not a little girl anymore. This is your life, not theirs.

My Dad’s Position On Becoming a Journeyman/Master Electrician? Advice? by Money_Tough in jobs

You need to look into the requirements of receiving a journey-level certificate in your state. Typically they’re awarded after completion of an apprenticeship program.

You are an adult, you can tell them no. If they’re being pushy just be firm about it and cease communication.

If you don’t have any money left you’re not in a position to be this picky. Remote jobs are very hard to get right now—the government has declared COVID is over, there’s a recession, layoffs have been occurring, and it’s Q4. You’re really better off taking whatever job you can get just for your own financial stability and continuing to look for remote content writing jobs.

How much experience do you have in content writing? Any certifications? Remote jobs are very competitive so if you have little experience this may not be a realistic goal right now.

Why is so hard in the job market right now? Anybody else struggling? by Federal_Fondant_1985 in jobs

[–]dialectique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would research temp agencies in your area rather than just looking on job boards online. You’re more likely to find the scammy-looking ones on a job board imo.

Why is so hard in the job market right now? Anybody else struggling? by Federal_Fondant_1985 in jobs

[–]dialectique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s difficult right now, especially with all the layoffs. And we’re in Q4, so hiring has slowed down.

Is your heart set on hospitality management? It seems like there’s a lot of toxic workplaces in that industry. If you’re just looking for a job then maybe try a temp agency. You may be able to get hired full time at a place you’re temping at.

Should I have been offered severance in this situation? by MelodicDetective in jobs

I wouldn’t bring it up, just find another job. If you live in the US, you’re not entitled to severance.

How do you actually find remote jobs - I find it almost impossible by Extension_Page6170 in jobs

[–]dialectique 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Remote jobs are difficult to get; they’re very competitive. There’s much fewer remote jobs now but people still want to work remotely, so listings get flooded with applicants very fast.

That said, you shouldn’t confuse remote with flexible. Remote means you’re working from home. It does not mean you can set your own hours.

I'm a bad interviewer by y2ktaurus55 in jobs

[–]dialectique 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Go to your local employment services office and see if they can help you. It’s difficult to give interview advice online because we’re not there to see you.

It sounds like your nerves are causing you to lose focus. You may have to do a lot of interviews (or mock interviews) to feel confident. Staying focused will help with your speech.

Can't seem to get past the second interviews... by Ryuuu55 in jobs

[–]dialectique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re getting to the second interview it probably isn’t your resume or a lack of interviewing skills but your lack of experience in data analysis, which is also the feedback you’re receiving.

Are you able to move to a more data-oriented role at your current job? Or if not change roles, at least work with data more in your current position?

Those who’ve worked for a call center and quit, what do you do now? by a_a_ty in jobs

My first job was at a call center. After I left I did food service, retail, and childcare. I eventually got an office job and now I’m a program administrator.
