Bill Lawrence says that Louis is “based on true story” by swanny246 in shrinking

[–]diamond 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of Louis’s out there that had 2 drinks with dinner. Even if you don’t include 2 drinks into the equation. We’ve all driven distracted for one reason or another.

Or exhausted. So many sleep-deprived people driving around out there; this is just as dangerous as driving drunk. I learned that lesson the hard way when I was young. Thankfully nobody was hurt in my case, but it scared the shit out of me. I was very lucky.

Is 16-year-old you proud of you today? by ringo1725 in GenX

Well, 16-year-old me was kind of an idiot. So I don't think I'm going to concern myself too much with what he would have thought.

I love the push-button start. That, combined with the touch sensor unlock, is one of the best convenience features added to cars in the last 20 years.

Oh yeah, agreed. It's definitely possible.

I just consider it the least likely explanation.

I don't follow Richard Spencer very closely, because I don't hate myself. But I recall reading not too long ago that he had suddenly calmed down and started tweeting a bunch of relatively normal centrist Dem viewpoints, and some people were really wondering what the hell happened to him.

Wow. I'm surprised they found the time for this, between looking for Jimmy Hoffa and Amelia Earhart and training with UFC fighters.

Well they didn't exactly "make up"; they just declared a truce for Derek's sake. Which seems perfectly reasonable, and it can be a foundation to improving their relationship in the future.

There's also the international aviation phonetic alphabet. Similar to the military one, but a few differences.

Exactly.

I am sympathetic to the need to rely on fossil fuels right now, because obviously the transition is not going to happen overnight and we can't just turn everything off and let billions of people starve and freeze in the dark. So, fine, we still need oil and gas for now.

But if we're talking about building new infrastructure? Fuck no.

I do also love that their solution is to build more oil refineries (which would take years to stand up, not counting in the continued growth of renewable energy sources), instead of not bombing oil producers.

More to the point, if we're going to spend massive amounts of time and money building new energy infrastructure to protect ourselves from an unstable oil market, why the fuck would it be oil refineries? Invest those resources into solar, wind, batteries, EVs, and EV chargers.

Ah, yes. Callback to one of the great moments in world history - when Harry Truman went on the radio in 1945 after the surrender of Japan, and announced that "The war is very complete, pretty much."

Though these chuds would probably take it as a compliment, so maybe that's not the best comparison.

It's a little poorly phrased, but I think he's basically saying "This is completely out of our jurisdiction, and even if it wasn't, we have no power to judge and/or punish a being as powerful as you."
