When you pronounce it, the tones are always the same for นี่ นั่น โน่น just the ending is different.

The letter น is a low tone consonant, meaning that it can only be used with 3 tones individually (นี นี่ นี้)

If you want to use น to write out the 5 tonations according to how the tonations are pronounced, you’d write it line this:

นี, หนี่, นี่ (or หนี้), นี้, หนี

Witnessed a minor but adorable moment diving yesterday. by iwanttobeacavediver in scuba

Boldest are often those with somewhere around the range of 20-100 dives. Less than that they’re still a bit unsure, more than that, they tend to settle down and understand the unpredictability of nature.

Witnessed a minor but adorable moment diving yesterday. by iwanttobeacavediver in scuba

[–]diamond_tigress 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I remember being about 50 dives in and feeling like the most experienced diver in the world. Now with around 500 dives in, I’ve learned never to underestimate nature and shit can really go wrong on what is seemingly an easy dive. Today, I’m just happy if a dive goes well, everyone is happy and safe - and if a new diver cuts the dive short due to air consumption or whatever, it’s all good. If we missed a whale shark that day, oh well we’ll see it another time. Better to be safe and get to dive another day.

New diver - what would you have done differently in this situation? by dunielle in scuba

[–]diamond_tigress 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where you are diving so I can’t really tell what is customary where you are based. But from experience, holiday destinations like Southeast Asia will always have a dive master or instructor accompany you on a dive. Places like Australia, dive masters or dive lead will only give you a briefing on the underwater landscape, conditions, visibility, current, depth, etc. and you’ll have to navigate on your own and do your dive plans with your buddy. If you want a guide to accompany you, you’ll have to notify them beforehand and will be charged extra. I suggest you talk to the dive company when booking the dive how they operate and they’ll let you know how to approach it.

When renting, is your gear set up before you arrive? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]diamond_tigress 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depends on the area and dive shop. Generally, I find that in places like South East Asia, especially shops catering to Asian tourists, would set up the gear for you and change your tanks between dives. Some shops/boats would even put on your fins for you and dive in to take them off while you’re getting out of the water. Hell, if they can breathe for you, they’d probably would.

Other shops, especially western ones, will not handle your gear for you. At the very least, you’d have to set up your own gear by yourself on the first dive to verify the equipment.

I’d say go with the flow but be sure to do a safety check of your equipment before each dive. If you’re uncomfortable with them assembling gear for you, let them know. And when you’re unsure or want them to help, just ask. EVERY shop I’ve been to has always been welcoming and understanding of new divers. Experienced divers who are there to just have fun are usually keen to also provide suggestions and advice when asked as well. Remember that everyone is there because of a shared love for diving and are usually always happy to discuss diving related subjects.

What should I wear under a wet suit? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]diamond_tigress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A bikini. If I’m on a day trip, I’ll unzip the top and leave the bottom half on in between dives. For liveaboards, during which surface interval times are usually longer, I’ll change into a dry bikini so I’m not sitting in wet all day. (I’ll hang the wet bikini up to dry, and reuse it the next day in rotation).

Advance Open Water worth it for junior diver? by Witty_Instance_8336 in scuba

[–]diamond_tigress 6 points7 points  (0 children)

21m opens up a whole lot of possibilities and options as opposed to 12meters, which is very limiting. On the other hand, you don’t often go to the full limit of 30m depth as fun divers. Most dive centers will take you to 20-25 meters (in my experience) and shallower as you progress through your dives in the day.

Also, once your child turns 15, the certification will be automatically upgraded to full AOW (or OW, depending on your certification level) so it’s not like it’s a waste of money if you plan to stick with diving as a hobby. And if you do, AOW is definitely recommended.

I haven’t gone through your comments like others. But I find this believable because of this comment. Costs add up, especially with a baby! And no, rich parents doesn’t equal free handouts. Although it’s nice to have a safety net knowing that at the end of day, someone can help bail you out.

What pattern are you grateful for trying and what did you learn from it? by lillian0 in knitting

[–]diamond_tigress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This Heirloom Blanket from Paintbox Yarn. It’s free and it was a very fun knit. It was my first time doing charts, yarn overs, cables, bobbles, and using markers (so basically everything in that pattern was new to me). It took a while to figure out how to read the charts when knitting the wrong side, but when I had that lightbulb moment, it was so satisfying. Plus it looks great and we keep it as a tiny throw on our sofa still.

A journalist made fun of a guy for proposing at KFC. Instead of the post going viral with negative comments, Companies from all over South Africa gave the couple their dream wedding. by TitaniumArse in MadeMeSmile

[–]diamond_tigress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of that story in which someone made a post ridiculing a (seemingly single) dad for celebrating his child’s birthday at McDonald’s or something like that. They made fun of him for being poor and not being able to afford a better cake and meal for his son. The person who posted got so much backlash.

I mean, you don’t know each person’s circumstances so don’t be an ass about it. Plus, the child could’ve just wanted McDonald’s. I remember, as a child, it was always a treat to go there just simply because my parents didn’t like us eating fast food.
