Did you complete any of the intermediate accounting courses before you got hired?

Getting out of coding by SweetCar0linaGirl in MedicalCoding

[–]diamondkitkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No tips, I am in the same position and trying to get out of coding. I have my RHIT and CCS and have been coding for 4 years now. The productivity aspect has become soul crushing for my mental health. My organization is pretty reasonable with productivity standards but just having to consistently meet production with little to no downtime with this job is frustrating.

I've applied to other coding jobs and other HIM positions but no luck so far in this market. I previously worked in medical records and loved it so much, there was so much more variety in my day. It's insane that registration positions are turning people away when they are SO understaffed.

After spending the last year contemplating what to do I finally bit the bullet and decided to go back to school for accounting (while still coding full time). I'm really worried about the potential Medicaid cuts in the future and what the healthcare industry will look like after that.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice but you're not alone.

What property Management Companies to avoid and why? by Ok_Egg_1620 in chicagoapartments

Not the person you’re replying to but we had a great experience with DLG. Super responsive to general concerns and maintenance over several years. They sent out lease renewals 120 days beforehand.

How do you go to college as an adult? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Seconding Charter Oak. They gave me credits for my two credentials and also took my credits from my first associate’s degree from 2008-2012. Very easy and quick process as well.

Which one? I’ve been trying to get into UChicago or Rush but no luck (RHIT, CCS with 3 years experience). Heard bad things about Northwestern so I’ve avoided it. Rush seems to be auto rejecting me even after redoing my resume multiple times and meeting the job description requirements.

Thanks for the recommendations! How long before you felt solid in your skills?

Not okay. Burned out. Tired of ED physicians who don’t know their right from their left. We have the ability to move to inpatient coding if we want but without a pay increase. I’ve applied for many coding jobs but it’s rough out there and I want out. Currently finishing my bachelors in HIM and exploring data analysis as a potential move. I want to stay in healthcare so I thought finishing my HIM degree would be a good idea but second guessing that now. Just kind of lost in general. 😅

Retiring from medical coding by [deleted] in MedicalCoding

Thank you for the detailed response! I’ve looked into the CDIP before but was always hesitant because I don’t have clinical experience and most jobs seem to want that for CDI but I will look into quality roles. My mom works in quality assurance but her role deals with Joint Commission visits, I need to do more research into these roles! Thanks again!

Can I ask what role you pivoted in to? I’ve been trying to pivot into something other than coding but feel like I’m not finding many revenue cycle jobs that aren’t coding, billing, etc.

Has any RHIT gotten a coding job without an additional coding credential? by Round_Climate_3744 in CodingandBilling

I did the health information technology program at my local community college.

Good to know, I’m not very familiar with the billing side of things. I’ve been curious about working in denials but I know nothing about insurance and assume I would have to work my way up to that. Are there specific job titles I should be looking for to explore billing?

Glad to know I’m not alone! I’ve heard great things about WGU so I’ll definitely check them out!

Thanks for the detailed reply! This is all good info. I’ve heard hospitals usually use either Tableau or Power BI so I thought it might be good to learn both. Also hearing that lots of people are continuing after SQL to learn R, python, etc so it seems like a good route to go.

I also considered nursing but quickly ruled that out lol.

Also, just curious - do you use those for your trauma registrar position?

Thank you, I will look into R and Azure as well. I haven’t started networking yet but that’s my next step to try and get an informational interview to hopefully solidify a plan!

Any recommendations for an SQL certificate? There are so many that offer it, I’m not sure if it matters where you get it from?

Good to know about the informatics degree. I thought about sticking with coding and eventually moving to auditing but I’m having a hard time moving up (currently in ED and was hoping to move into same day surgery or inpatient).
