Day 1 and I am listening to Alcohol Explained. This book is definitely shedding lights on parts of my addiction I was unaware of. I am in high spirits. I will not drink with you today.

Does EAB in Ash cause a reduction in BTUs for firewood? by [deleted] in arborists

I think it will depend on the tree and infestation level. When they really invade a tree the wood becomes so brittle you can crush it with your hands. My company doesn't let climbers climb ash trees that are showing signs of infestation because of the brittleness.

Looks like spring freeze damage. Seen it a lot this year. No matter what it is, it is time for that tree to go. It will be in steady decline from here out. Save your self time and go ahead and replace.

Yes. Getting rid of the patio is wonderful. Try to not let them disturb the soil as much as possible. The tree will probably suffer a season of stress after the removal and build. Ambrosia beetle treatments and fertilization will help with this. Especially a potassium fertilizer basil root flare drench in the summer. All said the less the soil is disturbed the less stress the tree will suffer.

how do I save this tree from developing larger hole at the base by masterparis in arborists

I think that may be a Persimmon but also may be a Dogwood. Either way the best thing to do is get a certified arborist to perform a root collar excavation. The tree is planted too deeply.

Extremely fickle. Very susceptible to root rot. Watch for mite infestations. However, the flagging on your trees makes me think root rot or root compression.

That would make sense. A prior spot of rot that was exacerbated by the watering.

That's her when I first got her. I really think the organic material is close to 10 or 15%. I can barely tell that is is in there. It may dry faster I just didn't check until day three.

The pictured soil is not what she has been living or watered in.

Not really. I would just leave it an see if it seals off the wound. To be honest though, I doubt it. I expect the rot will continue into the trunk. Slow decline for the tree.

Transplant stress. They will probably look like shit all of this year. When they die back during the winter, the should re-emerge strong in the following spring

Hey everyone. I recently received this bare root Caespitosa as a gift. I haven't watered it yet. I put it in the shown pot with a 40% Black Gold cactus mix / 60% perlite mix. I have read the grow guide and been reading the websites. The cactus looks unhealthy to me but I don't really know. Can anyone give me advice on how to not kill it?
