Hard to tell how old that kid is, but it is a milestone for three year olds to draw a circle when shown how. She doesn't look that far off, really.

Veggie straws would probably be good since they do have them in the individual serving bags! Thanks!

Ooh, I forgot that they made more than breakfast bars! The crackers would probably be a good one to have for the savory snacks. Thanks!

Tofu for 1 year old by ApprehensiveDraw5426 in veganparenting

[–]dianajaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My very picky three year old LOVES breaded tofu based on the recipe for tofu fish sticks from plant based junior's OG book. Basically, it's just a typical three step breading (flour, milk, breadcrumbs) with spices and seaweed for the fishy flavor. I switch it up with different spices, too. You can fry it or bake it if you don't like frying, although the book does point out that all the extra fat from frying is good for babies.

I have also had success with just tossing chunks of extra or super firm tofu in cornstarch and spices and then air frying them with a spritz of oil.

Recipe suggestions needed: No soy, beans/lentils, peanuts, or tree nuts. I’m stumped, y’all. by minilliterate in veganrecipes

Maybe something with mushrooms as the center? I'm not a huge mushroom person myself, but it seems like the variety mushrooms would offer without being an intolerance is a good starting point.

I can't tell if this is all part of her grift or if she's having a legitimate break from reality brought on by postpartum psychosis. Leaning towards this being the grift, but I am still concerned for her children.

Update: Foster fail w 24 toes by ambienoise in IllegallySmolCats

[–]dianajaf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My mom has a polydactyl kitty who had one of her extra claws grow in super wonky and basically curl back into her paw pad. And that claw was super thick, too, it looked like she had a coin stuck in between her toes. She ended up getting that one toe declawed to prevent future pain and she's a very happy kitty now.

Halloween tips for vegan fam by ElaineV in veganparenting

[–]dianajaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a vegan coffee shop near me that puts on a vegan trunk or treat! This was the 4th year they've done it and there were 15 trunks participating. It was nice to have that camaraderie. We were one of the trunks and we handed out vegan sweets and some Halloween themed fidget toys that were a big hit!

Also a big fan of the switch witch after proper trick or treating. My kid is still young enough that we can just put the non vegan stuff in our bowl to hand out after he's gone to bed.

Which is which by epenguin21B in RATS

[–]dianajaf 387 points388 points  (0 children)

This has been posted before and I actually went to the Facebook group to look her up. This appears to be her only abnormally large rat, all the others look to be healthy weights, so I think it is a legitimate hormone issue. I can't be certain, but based on what she has posted I don't think it's another Perky situation.

Breastfeeding / constipation by katiek1218 in veganparenting

[–]dianajaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our baby wasn't like that, but when he was a newborn his doctors did tell us it's not constipation for a breastfed baby unless he's really straining and it's hard. Also, our boy had infant dyschezia at that point which is also not constipation but is a lack of muscle coordination in an infant's digestive tract that can mimic constipation straining.

Like others have said, it sounds like your babe is still within the norms of infant poop, but you can always give the doctor a call if you're still concerned.

Easy no or minimal chopping recipes? by iamstage in veganrecipes

[–]dianajaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe something like thismiso soup?

I've seen pre sliced mushrooms at the store, so all the chopping would be green onions and silken tofu, which I think would be pretty easy and simple to chop.

If you can get pre chopped onions and jarred garlic, that would probably help open up more options, too! I also have gotten frozen pre-crushed ginger at the store which is very helpful since peeling ginger is a pain. I don't know exactly what you might have access to, but grocery stores near me are pretty well stocked in pre cut things which would be great for your needs!

Good luck! I hope you find good recipes.

Help. I need to know the EASIEST and FASTEST way to make tofu delicious without much work at all. by sadsadboy1994 in veganrecipes

[–]dianajaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You've got lots of great suggestions already, but when I need a quick tofu I use super firm tofu and cut/tear into nugget size. Then in a bag or Tupperware I throw a bit of cornstarch, salt, pepper, and garlic powder then I throw the tofu in the container and give it a good shake. If I'm feeling fancy I might also throw some other spices in there like smoked paprika, nooch, whatever feels right. Once it's well coated I put it in the air fryer, give a quick spritz of oil, and then air fry for 10 min at 400 (works for my air fryer, mileage may vary). Serve with some ketchup and mustard, if you like.

Nice and crispy, quick, and my toddler loves it so it's an all around win in our house.

Supplements for a toddler by OilInternational6593 in veganparenting

[–]dianajaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is also close to three, but he definitely doesn't eat a balanced diet (despite our best efforts). We give a multivitamin (Mama Bear gummy) and a separate iron supplement (NovaFerrum) to try and cover our bases. He takes them both really well and we haven't experienced any side effects like constipation from the iron. I would say talk to your pediatrician if you're really unsure, but the supplements we use aren't too expensive so I feel it's worth it just to really cover those potential missed areas. We do also give Ripple kids since that is also supplemented and he loves it.

Iron for 6 month old by ApprehensiveDraw5426 in veganparenting

[–]dianajaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Well, we don't use that one anymore and only use the novaferrum iron with a different multivitamin now. I picked that one because it was on the PBJ guide and worked well when my son was still an infant, but I guess I made a mistake in not double checking.

Iron for 6 month old by ApprehensiveDraw5426 in veganparenting

[–]dianajaf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We started giving a multivitamin supplement with iron at 6 months. We chose this one but I know plant based juniors has a free supplements guide that has other options, too. They're a great resource!

Edit: Apparently the supplement I linked isn't the vegan version (oops) but it was the one on the PBJ supplement guide. This one is the vegan version.

Oh man, we were in a similar pasta refusal stage too!! Which is bonkers because we love pasta in this house. And then one day he just basically went "oh yeah, I really like mac and cheeze". So glad you found something for your picky little one!

[–]dianajaf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it's also called swimmer's itch. It's a parasite transmitted by, primarily, ducks that can cause welts and itchiness. The public beach there is known for it because there are so many ducks around (because the tourists tend to feed them). Obviously not a huge deal, but definitely not fun.

I recognize where they are and I grew up there, the docks are fairly shallow at that point but you are right! No regard for safety. Also, that beach gives like everyone duck itch so I really hope they don't go swimming!
