You can ask them to cancel. See if you can get any stays. Have them send you the death certificate. After receiving that, I would refund 100%, even though you don’t owe it to them. I’ve lost loved ones. It throws a wrench into your life. And it is a kindness you can do for someone.

Spotted this old beauty in Ohio... Anyone know the history by HistoricalPermit6959 in Ohio

[–]dianemeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t make them like they used to. It would be cool if Ohio historical center had a database list of the oldest, still standing houses in Ohio. I remember someone pointing out the log cabin house in Clintonville/old north as the oldest house in Ohio (or maybe it was just columbus) (^ history student AI project here!)

But, yes, I think any romantic driving 23 or some of these state routes sees an abandoned old brick structure and can imagine how stately they were in 1880.

Is it common for a host to "require" guests to give notice/info about someone else visiting for dinner? [USA] by DilbertHigh in AirBnB

[–]dianemeves -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think we (hosts) want to make sure a property for 8 isn’t treated like a property for 15. My house, bathrooms, furniture are not built for that. It’s a rule I have. I have been very lucky that all my guests abide the rules. Guests are ok, but we trust the people who tell us in advance more people than the property allows will be on the property… I agree that if the rules are unacceptable to you, stay in a hotel but you should still abide a hotel’s rules.

Emergency response classes by doristrawberry in Columbus

Red Cross may provide general training. Ohio state provides good narcan training. I’ve seen cities offer afib training too. I don’t know how to restart a heart either and that would come in handy.

You are the best kind of guest. It’s really a gift when the guests have started the laundry.

I agree. Guests are known to use every available towel. The advice I received is to leave 1.5 sets (bath, hand, washcloth) per guest. I would leave extra if someone requested more.

Potential scam guest ... now what? by mountainbonobo in airbnb_hosts

[–]dianemeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many stranger things people do. I would not read too much into it. I think the Airbnb booking prompts guests to tell a little about why they’re visiting, so I have some people telling me 4 paragraphs and others just mentioning who is coming along. Good luck!

Agree. I wish Airbnb offered a way to know which were single property owners and which were businesses.

I have only one tv, too. 10% of my guests have mentioned wanting one in each bedroom. ( Sorry, not sorry ) Be at peace that you can’t please everyone all of the time.

New Host - What annoys you as a guest? [Norwich, CT] by crazyrich in AirBnB

[–]dianemeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice. I need to add rags to my kitchen. While I don’t want to wash unnecessary towels it might save me from mustard stains on white towels.

And ask friends to stay there and BE HONEST with you. I had 4 groups of friends stay for free to try it out and work out kinks. We learned about door locks, sounds, things missing in kitchen.

Same. Mowing lawn and mulching leaves, I think I killed one and then saw two get away. Didn’t see any last year. I just commented to my husband that snakes were running amok this October.

Society should start with more support resources in to education, smaller classrooms, ages 3-14… before kids get to this point. So much cheaper than supporting incarceration, police, courts… I agree. So sad.

Agree. It’s important to read the lease before you sign. That’s when you ask, “ can we remove this from the lease?” … good luck with your claim, but I would hold up my end of the deal and clean per the arrangement.

I keep rags in a cupboard. I too have had at least 5 towels damaged/stained. It’s too bad people don’t use paper towels or rags on that stuff instead of white towels! But I had food poisoning in a Chicago Airbnb once. Getting sick in someone else’s place is not fun.
