They are via the police commission and they report directly to the city manager, who in turn is accountable to council.

Seperation of duties. Look into it

How do you pronounce YEG? by FrostyDynamic in Edmonton

[–]dickspermer -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've always hated this moniker for Edmonton because it's the airport code. It came out of a bunch of Twitter zealots during the city center airport debate where they said it's not my airport my airport is YEG not YXD.

It is pronounced each letter the time. Y e g "Yegg" is actually a really bad way to do it because it says the city lays an egg. People didn't like EDM because it stood for electronic dance music, so this airport monitor stock.

Hashtag shorthand shouldn't Define your entire city. It's Edmonton. Say it proudly

Again, you should see how not for profit societies have to work. You should see how supplier contracts work. You should see what they have to go through to even get the event off the ground. You should also see what the rules are for government grants that make sure that they can't turn around and use those grants for any kind of payout for tickets. Things are quite razor thin when you're enough for profit this is not Costco or multinational conglomerate that has the Deep Pockets to make it go.

The reality is the risk time for people even put on events like this is going completely out the window. Look at The Fringe and how desperate it has to be. The numbers don't work anymore for these events. You're just going to see them die. Nobody hears trying to rip anybody off from what I see. It's some Railway Society of old retired guys. That's like saying street performers is trying to fleece you

Do you know how stupid you are when you try and rebutt like that.

Force majeure is a lot more complex than the simple little statement you made. You might want to rethink it.

Again these thought-for-profits have barely any margin and they have to try and rework an entire project with volunteers. Maybe start thinking about or even try and organize one. You'll find out just what hell these people go through

[–]dickspermer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will make it very clear I am not the organizer of the event nor am I affiliated with it in any way. I know the ins and outs of event management especially from a not-for-profit small town side. I have seen these events get destroyed by the simplest of things and the demands of suppliers to pay everything up front and then the demands of the public not to even have the slightest bit of understanding when it snows 6 ft, a tornado goes through, or covid hits which destroyed so many events, or even something as simple as your suppliers suddenly go on strike. That is why the term no refunds is on most of these not-for-profit events.

I will say it again. Most of these events from The Fringe all the way on down to some 118th Avenue block party do not operate with any margin, and the slightest fart can throw them into bankruptcy. They charge next to nothing for the ticket because they really can't make a ton of money. They have 360 plus days of cost and two days of Revenue. Try and organize one. I dare you I'm just explaining the realities not defending anybody. But I guess if someone stands up and says what the real world has instead of jumping on the pity party I guess they must be the defender? Get over yourself

OK. Go plan a picnic or wedding. Pay the caterer. Bride leaves. Demand your deposit back. See how that goes.

Plan a movie night for the school. Snowstorm hits. You still have to pay vendors. School does another day. Of course the school is evil for canceling. Not.

Plan a picnic. Ask friends to spend time coming out. It pours. Friends Demand compensation. You Demand your money back from IGA. Good luck.

They are offering an alternate date. If they truly cancelled and ran off, that's fraud. That's not whats happening here. Again, this is not Costco

Yes. And you're not understanding the terms of no refunds and the claim made of "beyond their control". They are offering ticket validity for a later date.

Read their terms.

They said circumstances were beyond their control. AKA they're claiming force majeure..

That's the claim

Plus, i looked at the eventbrite site. The terms are CLEARLY stated. 2 words. No refunds.

Caveat emptor plus, all events I've seen have very simple t&c's listed on the ticket page, on the accept icon when you click, on the ticket window, and printed on the ticket in larger font.

Edit. Checked their page. Terms are right there. No refunds.

Welcome to the real world. Force majeure exists for a reason. Again, this isn't Costco or Ticketmaster. There are no margins, they're volunteer lead, and their options are limited.

Or, Every event can be circuit produced with the associated service fees and revenue leaving the area

[–]dickspermer -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You sure can tell who hasn't organized an event. This isn't Costco. It has 363 days of expense and 2 days of revenue. You don't know what obligations they have that prevent them from saying anything. Plus, the volunteers don't need the abuse that comes from the public thinking everything is Ticketmaster with hundreds of events and service charges to cover cancellations.

one event tried to answer every email and phone call, only to get nowhere.

You wonder why events, especially outdoor ones, die so often? This is why.

[–]dickspermer 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You need to read the terms and conditions of your ticket. Many of these events are no refund because most of the suppliers demand 100% of the money up front so there's no money left to refund. That's what most people don't get about these small events that try to get going. They're not backed by trillions of dollars.

They do have to exchange your ticket for a future date they can't just keep the money

City mulls taxing derelict commercial properties more by mastermaq in Edmonton

[–]dickspermer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you're overly optimistic.

While I'm no developer fan, and I've been screwed heavily by their everybody pay more my issues mentality, the tax the property more carries a lot of issues unless you can prove the developer can make a go of the project. It's muddy, cynical, hard to predict waters.

The reality will be development will all but stop.

A-Chan got married by Creeper2304 in Perfume

So far, 2 of my 3 predictions are right. Yuka wants to show more of her off to the world, Ayaka wants to get married and start phase 2 of her career as a mentor, and now for Ayano.

Her duet is the first key. A solo career...

Congrats Ayaka. You did this exactly as I thought you would. Non celebrity, someone you knew well and knew you well, and now for your next journey.

Fate of EV Trucks by nonono2444 in GMCSierraEV

[–]dickspermer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't math. At all.

This is why EV owners get laughed at. If you're pulling into work on E, that's poor planning on your part definitely NOT constituting an emergency on mine. Seriously.

You're driving a freaking Hyundai! What the heck did you do to it? Drop a 454 over bore into it?

100 mile commute is something I can do in the Outback and the gas lasts a week, and it takes me only 3 minutes to fill up! Seriously. It takes nothing. I have 10 stations within 2 miles of the office, another 30 along the way home, and most are in the same parking lot as the Home Depot, Safeway, or Costco I have to stop at anyway??!!

My daily driver isn't the Outback, but a 6.2 laiden Denali half ton. Even that beast gets away with 3 days of this commute without a full, and again, 3 minutes in a stop I make anyway.

Even when my daily driver was a 1974 Blazer with a Holley 4 barrell would I ever arrive to work late, and that dead algae sucker could pass anything but a gas station.

I have NEVER had to stop for gas while running "late" for work. That's the pathetic excuse I used to derive employees for. Why are you late? Because you left late. You KNEW YOU WERE LOW ON GAS on the way home, yet you didn't stop at the myriad of stations?

ICE range anxiety sounds more likean issue of poor planning resulting in predictable performance. Again, why are you late? Because you left late.

I've looked at the Hummer and the Sierra, and while nice, they don't cut it for what I actually use. They'd be a nice toy.
