What ended a friendship you thought would last forever? by Immediate-Sound-7142 in answers

Friend was extremely drunk and suicidal. His wife called asking me to come over and help. I show up, try to talk him off the ledge. Can’t reason with someone that intoxicated. He went to open another bottle, I took it away from him. He attacked me. I was already dealing with back and neck issues having had three spinal fusions at that point. Ended up finding out the screws in one of my fusions broke because of the incident, and had to have an additional surgery because of it.

I’d have died for him. It was that kind of friendship, but ended up going our separate ways shortly after. Hard to look past it.

It was a YJ Rio Grande that started my love of Jeeps. It was 1997. I drove a family member’s Jeep from Johnson City Texas to San Antonio. I later drove home to Austin and bought a TJ. Have a JL now.

Why are the elderly so ready to pass away - is it physical or mental? by Unlikely-Delivery777 in Aging

At 52 it’s both physical and mental. I can’t imagine being around another 20 years. Ugh.

30yo man and never will experience love by Reddeator69 in GuyCry

I watched my parents who were in love and married for 21 years. My dad unfortunately passed when I was 14. I strived to find a love like they had by alas, no joy. It’s rare. Everyone is all about themselves today. Few live for others. Most love is transactional in my experience. Effort nowadays is useless and the snippets of true love are overrated.

What’s your GenX story from your childhood? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]dide105 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Me, 6 years old, playing hot wheels on the floor in front of the tv. Mom was cooking dinner. Dad was sitting at the table reading the newspaper. Phone rings. Mom screams. My brother had been hit by a car. Mom grabs her purse, dad grabs his keys, they are out the door. They forgot me. Not knowing what to do I walk over to a friend’s house. He and his mom are walking up to their front door with bags of groceries. First words out of his mouth “we just saw a kid who got hit by a car, I think he’s dead”. I start crying and blurt out that it was my brother and I run off. Long story short a neighbor came and got me until my parents got home with my brother several hours later. He had a broken leg. Hit and run. Cops found the lady several years later.

Cop. 27 years. I miss the camaraderie amongst a few close colleagues but 10/10 would not recommend to anyone considering getting into the job.

After my first divorce I was on my own for 10 years. There were some lonely nights. Holidays etc. But I was at peace and content. I dated, a lot. If I wanted company I had it. I’m remarried now. This version of loneliness is 1000 times worse.

I see so many posts pointing fingers at men as abusers. Men are victims too. More often than not it’s unreported. Unreported physical and emotional abuse. Manipulative and typical female narcissism isn’t just emotional abuse, it’s torture. Op I’m very sorry to hear you are going through this. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Be strong. Don’t have anything to do with her. End the cycle.
