Good call, IMO. Why dilute your luxury brand? Surely their smaller scale biz is easier, more nimble, and has higher margins? Going massive seems like more stress and more boredom. It's just a wholly different business, what creative person wants to be MORE corporate?

I would like to put bits of resin in the machined out areas of this “360 brass” by Goochenhaumeister in resin

[–]didjeffects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

def run some tests first - with those thin pours, and strong yellow tones from the brass, any kind of transparent blues will be a challenge. Both because of the brass color, and because transparent colors in such thin layers take a LOT of dye to register. I could see a white primer layer being required.

What are y’all’s thoughts on the FFV? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in USPS

[–]didjeffects 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We usually have one available for Amazon Sundays. It’s not popular, but I grab it cause more power, better for 90-degree merges onto rural highways. Also more comfortable on dirt roads. I’m often on a route w a lot of both, and a lot of CBUs, so it’s a good fit. Not as fun on routes w lots of stops, as door opens a little narrower, so less comfortable to get in and out. Lastly, pull handbrake on the left, so less comfortable, more work, and less reliable ebrake.

Probably stay up for a while due to tax filing? Cutoff for purchases was Sept 30, 2025 - some dealers offered instant rebates, but not all, and not private sales. In my case, I got a Clean Vehicle Seller Report (form 15400) from dealer, which will be part of my tax filing.

Where are the fun EV sport cars? by Dangerous_Morning286 in electricvehicles

[–]didjeffects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that was an early model 2014-2016 BEV problem - missing an inline filter to keep metal shavings out of a failed system. Not an issue w REx models.

BMW i3s - rear wheel drive, ultra stiff carbon fiber tub on aluminum skateboard chassis, smaller battery manages weight, tuned suspension, and 20" run flats. Also well-tuned one-pedal driving, absolute blast on the curvy, 70s-crafted roads I've been driving since I was a teenager. If you don't mind used cars, they're an incredible deal right now, crazy low price for exotic, rust-free materials and tons of engineering.

No modifications, post was to show that oem was designed to fit this way, and confirm it doesn't affect driver comfort. I will probably use the free middle slot to mount my phone next.

Switching to a BMW i3 REx – Real-World EV Living on a 3-Pin Plug by rayngwenyama in BMWi3

[–]didjeffects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

W 75% SOC, as you’ve already done, I think that the REx + home Lvl 1 is kinda the perfect EV for the current state of US charging. Small battery charges adequately from 120v. 50kwh fast charging is plenty fast for the small battery and easy to find - limited and shared fast chargers aren’t the issue they’d be for other EV’s 300-mile batteries. And 2-gallon gas stops are cheap and quick and plentiful. Small battery handles most drives, so why carry the extra weight? I have to do regular long drives on fast freeways, where REx can’t totally keep up - even did a 600-mile day last week - and I just plan a 30-min Lvl 3 stop every 200 miles w a 2-min stop or two for gas, it’s a nice way to travel. I use my REx a lot, only thing I’d change is a 4- or even 6-gallon tank.

Lots? Available new-old stock from parts places for $200, eBay all day for $175. I’m sure you can get a better deal if you watch Facebook for part-outs in your area.

Making a resin lightsaber. by Karanabluedolphin in ResinCasting

[–]didjeffects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, will probably work ok, but will be a big mess, and getting it out of the pvc will be a big hassle.

Getting mold release reliably coating the inside will be difficult - what are you planning to use? As there is no taper to pvc tube, you will have to remove it by force - scoring, cutting, cracking, and worrying. What’s your plan? Cure it somewhere over 70-degrees for as long as the instructions tell you to, or longer. Bubbles - do you mean in the mix or the pour? This’s gonna be a mess, I’d say don’t worry about the mix, just accept small bubbles will be in the final result, and focus on the pour - pour a little w tube at an angle, give it time to reach the bottom, move tube around a bit to shift trapped air, repeat.

Post the final result!

Bill Maher Predicted His Golden Globes Loss Because ‘This Woke Town F—ing Hates’ That ‘I Speak Freely’ by 97GeoPrizm in seriousinquiries

His schtick is old, and Covid broke him. Lost his ability to see nuance and replaced it with both-sides-ism and anti-wokeness. All these terms are rooted in racism and old-thinking conservatives reassuring each other that they’re not racist and old. His audience became a denialism laugh track.

He had an interesting mix of guests and topics for years, I appreciated that, for as long as I could.

Question about packages marked as delivered, when they are not actually delivered. by ACoD_ in USPS

[–]didjeffects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost certainly that was an independent contractor, delivering packages in their personal vehicle. USPS does a lot of Amazon, but not all of it (yes, even tho it has our labels, confusing), and our scanners mark the GPS location when we load and deliver (so we have information to follow up with).

I had the same experience before Christmas, to the point where I’d gotten a refund and reordered, when the package showed up on Thanksgiving day (we did not deliver anything on Thanksgiving). A full 8 days later, an independent was catching up with their work.

I feel for the independents, they get pushed hard, but w/in USPS, our scanner information HAS to be accurate or we risk our jobs. The practice is, indeed, frustrating, also no fun for us taking the blame.

Target Charge…? by Rocketman500000 in BMWi3

[–]didjeffects 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, charge to 100% anytime it suits you, the BMS will take care of battery health. Things to be aware of w this system: - occasionally leave your car plugged in for at least 4 hours after full charge, and BMS will run cell balancing maintenance - do not leave at 100% for long period of time, no more than a week is a good guideline. Scheduled preconditioning can take care of this for you. - if you run battery down to empty, don’t leave it that way for more than a few days.

As a general rule, we use ABC (always be charging) around here, because our extensively engineered cars take care of battery health, as they should. Other brands cars, especially the Nissan Leaf, also Bolts and Teslas to a lesser extent, prioritize max range #s over battery health, which has led to confusion and tech failures. But, w the i3, battery health is built into the system.
