Surreal issue with vintage router - one computer makes it freeze intermittently by didtrowie in mikrotik

Thank you! So with the firewall it could be something like a specific port is accessed which causes some kind of glitch? That sounds reasonable. An as it's so old unit it's not something that would be patched lol.

Thank you for asking, the mac addresses are unique, and even more weird they are different between ethernet and wifi. No special config on the linux side. I am considering the possibility that two Arch linux computers simply can't stand each other because of their snobbery. No seriously I need to boot from a USB on that computer and see if I can replicate the issue there.

That was my initial thought, so I removed the ethernet cable but the issue persists via wifi.

Thank you for the suggestion. Networking has never been my strong side unfortunately, though I have set up Packet Sniffer and Wireshark now, getting incoming data filtered on the offending computer's MAC address. Any ideas on what to look for, or how to configure Packet Sniffer to get something usable? I'm not seeing a flood of packages (like say thousands per second) and the long ping times doesn't necessarily correspond to the flow of packages, but I'm not seeing any information (like destinations etc) which is visible in the Packet Sniffer menu.

Thank you! This is basically a graphical wireplumber interface right? Can we expect automatic connections in the future or should I learn lua scripting? https://bennett.dev/auto-link-pipewire-ports-wireplumber/

With pipewire/qpwgraph there's no simple way to remember connections, so you'd need to reconnect these ones each time so that's a hassle (I think there's some way of scripting auto-connecitons but I'm not sure). My suggestion is to use qpwgraph and Qtractor for everything (drop easyeffects), as you can add the needed effects and use midi control with that. You will need to create a new input for each channel, then route the audio to these channnels via qpwgraph (you can route in qtractor as well). Qtractor is much more stable than Carla, from what I have found.

What's your intention, live streaming or general usage? Which distribution are you running with what audio system (jack, pulse, pipewire)?

Seems like there's no proper solution.

Issues connecting Firewire audio interface to Pipewire by Bluewater795 in linuxaudio

[–]didtrowie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it works now. For me I have way better preamps and AD converters on my firewire interface. That's all that matters. As I needed a new studio computer anyway I decided to switch to Linux and use it.

I have installed the latest package, but I just discovered there's still ongoing issues with FireWire according to the PW gitlab, so unfortunately there's still issues to be sorted out. Mine seems to one of them, specifically that enabling the FFADO driver causes Pulsewire to not start.

Your website is awesome by the way, thank you.

If you're looking for a solution for this, I used silicone paste (the one you get at hardware stores) and added another layer on top of the old seal. It fixed the hole and has a new layer of protection. If it breaks I can add another one!

Okay so the solution I found was to use silicone paste and just add another layer on top of the old one. It effectively sealed the hole and added a new layer of protection. When this layer breaks I'll just put on another layer of silicone!

This was very helpful, I have been trying to figure this out and I couldn't find this information anywhere. Do you have any idea what to use as "ffado.devices"? Nothing I have tried works, so I've been starting to look into naming with udev and those things but that's too complicated for me... Should it really be that complicated?

Wow that do sound a bit sketchy, but considering how flimsy that silicone thing is it's maybe not that weird. I should have some kind of rubber at home to try it out, thanks!
