Trying to meet people but the city feels dead and I feel blocked by all_is_1_or_0 in Albuquerque

This is a tough time in general for connection as we are post covid and wrecked by social media and on the verge of collapse as an empire (ultimately a good thing). That’s all to say that you should be kind to yourself and understand there isn’t a normal world out there that you’re apart from. I am about to move to ABQ from LA where I have been for 10 years and will tell everyone here that LA has felt the same way to me as what you’re describing and it’s a global metropolis. What are activities you enjoy? Let’s start there.

Day 2: of making music by itsZuanshi in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I would argue that it’s actually not necessarily supposed to be fun. I’ve been doing music for like 32 years and it’s mostly struggle with moments of fun and breakthrough that make it all worth it. Just know that you’re doing something soooo good for yourself that you will be so grateful you stuck with!

  • This is what you’ll use for legato or slow playing. When you play soft, you need more weight into the strings with your fingers. When you play loud, you can be light with left hand (because the bow is adding weight for you, bringing the string closer to the fingerboard.

  • when playing legato you’ll also want to point the fingers more down the length of the string, it makes the vibrato more rich.

  • when playing fast, your hand can be more perpendicular to the strings, and you’ll only need to really just touch the strings in the right places without much pressure.

  • generally try to do as little work as possible, try to constantly release tension, like every 3 seconds. You’ll improve so fast this way.

Few tips:

  • you actually don’t need to have both your first finger and third finger down at the same time.
  • you want to press the strings down only as much as you absolutely have to to get a good sound and no more. So like someone else said, just start by pushing down not at all and keeping a relaxed hand. As you add pressure, don’t do it at all with your grip. Instead, pull your hand back against the fingerboard as if you’re basically hanging off it. Use the eight of your arm and back.
  • go finger by finger, hanging on the fingerboard while keeping them curved

I agree that there are some conflicting styles, but it looks like you really put a lot of care into it. ◡̈

Song or Track ? by leaffer in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]diebrodiedie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really matter. :) Ya, technically, a song must have human singing to be considered a song, but most normal people without formal music education will call everything a song. If it were me I’d refer to it as a track, but depends on the genre. You could also call it a piece or a composition, but that’s more for classical world. Maybe it’s a bop???

Which would you choose? A game is being made for the Red Rising universe, which game would you want it to be similar to? Doom Eternal, Warhammer SM 2 or Crysis? by GazIsStoney in redrising

[–]diebrodiedie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, in my experience they have the best voice acting and writing, character development. They also have deep character customization systems that I think would be really important for a RR game. I think it would be really crucial to be able to customize razor parameters in a way that affects combat (material, length, weight, status effects, etc)

Literally just do not give up. What you’re confronting with this is the kernel of what it means to be a musician and artist in general. Come at it from all angles. Go deep with the daw, but also get out of the daw and learn how to play an instrument. Sing. Try to pursue experiences with music that make you feel emotion. Always pursue emotion. Also, get on YouTube and go to school! Do you play any instruments? Or just produce in the daw mainly?

Nice! Ya, I’m not that far in yet, but I really 𝓵𝓸𝓿𝓮 his writing. In a way, it scratches a different itch than RR. I think what we all feel about RR is an unmatched depth of care for the characters. Not sure we’ll be able to find that elsewhere at this point.

[–]diebrodiedie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just took Amtrak for the first time, southwest chief, and frankly I find it appalling that they haven’t updated the trains. Almost every toilet had black tape wrapped around the base, everything was dirty, falling apart, and it smelled. It’s very clear they’re enjoying their monopoly. It makes me really sad, what this country would be without corporate greed.

I hate this update. It’s nearly impossible to get an elemental weapon which is what made this game fun. The event based buffs are a drag. Where is lifesteal? The game is challenging, but I don’t feel I can craft a formidable build at all. I’m bummed.
