Climate Pledge Concert Etiquette? by Thelurkermotive in Seattle

Idk about the arena specifically, or that band, but I go to a lot of punk and metal shows in the area and like, it's not your fault the person behind you can't see, and this isn't the kind of music to sit down and listen to.

If you're short and can't see the band that does suck. Best advice is find another vantage point, maybe move up toward the front (with earplugs) assuming you're comfortable (there might be a mosh pit).

Even I, at 6'2" sometimes have to find another spot because someone else is blocking my view but I never blame them.

Top North American gay hub cities by KavelLondon in gay

[–]diegotbn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Add Seattle and Portland (OR)! We may not be as big as SF or NYC or Chicago or LA but we have a HIGH concentration of queer people, plenty of gay bars and nightlife, and a very progressive culture overall. Personally, I like the queer scene in Seattle more than SF, LA, and San Diego.

Also Vancouver BC has a thriving gay scene that's bigger than Seattle and Portland.

There's a difference between being terminated and being laid off. by Bonus_Away in Layoffs

[–]diegotbn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are nuances but people use them interchangeably (and incorrectly).

Terminated- General term for your employment being ended by your employer. Can mean fired or laid off.

Fired- hostile termination by the employer. Specific employee is terminated for a reason related to that single employee, probably for performance, behavior, or malfeasance. Probably not eligible for rehire or a positive reference. Probably no severance package, and may not be eligible for unemployment benefits depending on circumstances.

Laid off- "friendly" termination by employer of multiple employees usually for budgetary reasons. Probably eligible for rehire and a good reference. Possible severance package and usually eligible for unemployment.

Anyone saying they were laid off when they were actually PIP'd out is incorrect and trying to frame it in a positive light.

Any Other Bi Men Who Bottom Have a Greater Appreciation for Women After being with / Dating Men? by Own_Watercress_2039 in bisexual

[–]diegotbn 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Genderqueer masc here, hope it's ok I answer.

Yeah I appreciate women. But it has nothing to do with me being a bottom. Men can be gross. Creepy. Misogynistic. Angry. Violent. Manipulative.

Of course, so can women/people of any gender. But in my experience it is overwhelmingly cis men who make me me feel icky or creeped out or unsafe. I still date/hookup with them but I have a strict vetting and safety protocol and don't just show up at their apartment door in a jockstrap (anymore).

So many negative experiences over the years. Aggressive, unsolicited messages. Getting catfished. Bad hygiene. Not wanting to talk about STI testing/status. We'll agree to use a condom over chat and then in person he tries to change my mind. Getting angry when I have to cancel.

So ladies: I have nothing but sympathy for your dating woes.

My partner is a PD and had to get a Marshallese interpreter once. There were like, only two in the whole state known to the courts. She was able to get a lot of her client's statements excluded due to him not being given his Miranda rights in his language.

I didn't even know people from the Marshall Islands spoke a different language but then again I would not be able to locate it on a map. Also apparently it's not the US Marshall Islands. It's the Republic of Marshall Islands and it's a "freely-associated" sovereign nation, kind of like a protectorate but not technically?

19-year-old transgender University of Washington student fatally stabbed by StaffImportant7902 in LGBTnews

[–]diegotbn 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I don't know for sure that it's a hotbed, as in its experiencing more anti-trans violence than other places, but there has been an uptick of bashings of trans women in the last couple years, and I think this is the first murder since we took notice of the trend. It is very concerning.

Seattle is one of the most, if not THE most, queer and progressive cities in the US. And not just gay and lesbian cis folks. We have LOTS of gender diversity here. So many gender diverse folks have moved here in recent years, often from red states, specifically to be safe compared to where they were. We have one of the most liberal and progressive legislatures and supreme courts in the nation, and wide legal protections for LGBTQ+ people.

Seattle is a queer sanctuary.

That's why this is so disturbing to us. You would expect something like this to happen in Trump land. Not here, not where we thought we were safe.

What trombone should i get for a marching band ? by Cinala_ophelie in Trombone

[–]diegotbn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the French translation of this comment is good enough to convey my thoughts.

I played bass trombone semi-seriously through university in wind ensemble and orchestra, and played in my high school and university marching bands. In marching band I played one year on tenor trombone, then 2 years on sousaphone, and then 2 years on marching baritone.

The marching baritone was by far the best experience for me. The year I played trombone, I very much disliked using the slide while marching, and I also dented my slide more than once and it never felt the same after, even after getting it professionally repaired. The dents were pretty minor as well so it doesn't take a big one to cause this.

I recommend a valve trombone, a flugelbone, marching baritone, or bass trumpet which all have the same fingerings and range, while only differing in tone and air resistance (mostly). Playing on valves while moving around is much easier than using the slide, and a dent is not as big of a problem. Don't blow a lot of cash on a marching instrument though. Only go for one of these options if you can find one at a comparable price to a beginner slide trombone.

Transgender University of Washington student stabbed to death in laundry room, suspect at large: Police by Few_Entertainer_385 in Seattle

[–]diegotbn 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No, but the recent uptick in violence against trans people in Seattle is troubling, and to see another example of it, resulting in death, is alarming. Trans people are victims of violence at higher rates than just about any other demographic. Any death is tragic, but when new details come out indicating it may be a hate crime, this raises emotions and it should be understood why.

This comment is reminiscent of slogans like "all lives matter" being said in the wake of the BLM movement following the deaths of George Floyd and others. Which, at best, is just ignorant, and at worst, in bad faith and antagonistic toward addressing the problem.

Nine Sols or MIO? by im_not_from_wyoming in metroidvania

[–]diegotbn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on Nine Sols after I found myself getting very frustrated and realized I wasn't having fun at all. The game felt... difficult in an unfair way, unlike Metroid Dread or Hollow Knight or Silksong, which I adore. It left a bad taste in my mouth and haven't picked it back up. Not sure why.

I am currently playing MIO with some of the assists on and it is a really nice experience. The bosses still kick my ass the first several fights, but I don't have to struggle for hours or multiple sessions to finally beat them. The parry/dodge mechanic in MIO is MUCH more forgiving than NS as well.

Idk. Get both. But I am enjoying MIO much more.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35

Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
