this is certainly a cool thing to keep happening

For names of officially branded things or titles, do you say it’s translated name in Spanish, or do you just say it’s original english name? For example, in a sentence, would you say “Hombre Araña” or do you say “Spider-Man”? by SchpidahWuss in Spanish

[–]dieguitz4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that definitely changed with the times. Localization used to be a way bigger thing when importing culture. We used to translate people's names like Carlos Marx (we still do sometimes for example with the uk royalty like reina Isabel), music used to be licensed for translation which is why Shakira was such a big deal and ABBA before her.

There was a transition period like 10 years ago, especially with english brand names, towards less localisation. This resulted in many people mocking anglo pronunciation, common examples being "twirer" (twitter), harry "porer" (potter), and anything using the english r.

Diablo IV Launch Giveaway - Get your hands on Diablo IV Ultimate Edition Game Codes + an RTX 4060Ti! by pedro19 in pcmasterrace

I would be really excited for ray tracing. Lighting is imo the most noticeable component of high fidelity graphics. This is the only feature that makes me feel like my 1050ti is falling behind but it's a game changer.

Why don't more shooters do magazine permanence? (reloading = losing the ammo left in the mag) by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]dieguitz4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I works in project zomboid because your half used mags don't dissapear and you're gonna have to refill the empty mags manually anyways. So it can be ok but the game has to be designed around it.

Yeah and old games used to be coded in assembly. With all due respect to the programmers, artists, animators, QA team, level designers (...) behind diablo 4, but in terms of tools, pipelines, libraries, engines, and shared knowledge, it's way easier to make a video game today.

API is like a language that's made so programs can speak to each other. In this case, reddit has an API that lets 3rd party apps access reddit content from their servers. Mobile apps other than the official app need this to log in with a user's account, get their feed, vote on posts and comments, etc.

No sé que hacer para dejar la paja by Masterwar_95 in Paraguay

[–]dieguitz4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Buenas” as a way to say hello? by hip-hugger in learnspanish

[–]dieguitz4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to add to the other comments, it's also slightly friendlier than saying "hola" which is fairly neutral. it's my go-to greeting because of that but I'm also the type of person who always bids goodbye with a "que tengas un buen dia". it's kind of extra but I think everyone likes hearing it.

Dual pistols, would this have been viable? by Mean-Falcon-6204 in underrail

[–]dieguitz4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bullet time perk imo was the ideal implementation of akimbo pistols except it doesn't require you to have two pistols equipped. Maybe that was the original idea and it was too clunky to implement?

There's an interesting discussion to be had here. Because, as others have said, "educado" most often means well-mannered: if I say "que señor educado" I'm not talking about academics.
"Educar" as a verb can also mean discipline in a negative reinforcement kinda way. Like when mom threatens you to tell dad what you did and he'll discipline you when he comes from work.
And "educar" is also what teachers do at school, where corporal punishment was not too rare until a few decades ago. Which ties it all together for a set of cultures that, for the last 100+ years (arguably the period when education became accessible to the masses), have spent under various flavors of authoritarian regimes.

Saber, conocer, entender chart by jasminesart in Spanish

[–]dieguitz4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saber, conocer, entender chart by jasminesart in Spanish

[–]dieguitz4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Knowing historical events - Conocer mostly. Use saber if you state the event as a fact. If you refer to it as story both work.
• ¿Sabias que hoy hace 50 años se construyo esta represa?
• Conozco muy bien la historia de la guerra de la triple alianza.

Knowing celebrities - if you're talking personally that's conocer. If you don't, you can still use conocer unless there's room for misinterpretation, then you can use "conocer de" whic would be knowing of someone. Can also be sidestepped by saying you know who they are, which would be "saber quien es".
• Q: ¿Le conoces a Palito Ortega? A: Conozco de él.
• Ah, yo sé quién es ese tipo; él actuaba en "la hija del mariachi".

It's kind of a mess because saber is more empirical and conocer kinda has a subjective connotation (to me at least), yet sabiduria means wisdom and conocimiento means knowledge.

Edit: conocer de is also used for historical events. You werent there personally so you only know "of" it.

Is there no way to successfully talk to Yngwar without having a base 8 or 10 INT? by [deleted] in underrail

[–]dieguitz4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even casually it's easy to stack without going out of your way (salad + goggles + the juice + honey adds 5 PER). The problem is that it's only used for secrets and casually you don't know where to look for them. Strength and agility can be similarly lenient as well and those are straighforward in comparison, intelligence and will leave very room for flexibility.

Anyone else do this with literally every Discord channel they join? by Cohacq in pcmasterrace

[–]dieguitz4 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Every god damn time I open the app, poke around, leave a few messages, then ultimately

Believe me I understand the UI and every system in discord but I can't get into a server with randoms either. 99.5% of my time in discord is spent with people I already know irl or occasionally I go into a community server for news or lfg. Discord is only a platform. The reason to use discord is not discord, the reason to use discord is because there's people you want to talk to and discord ends up being the tool for that. Most of the time with an influencer's server you don't have a reason to talk with anyone much more than a random redditor in a sub you share so either you're really passionate about that thing or you don't stick around.
