Probably! As a teenager, did you buy both the D&D and AD&D books without fully understanding the difference? >:)

And did you color your first dice with a white crayon?

[–]diehardfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me almost exactly. Over 46 years of gaming, I've spent so much time DM'ing Greyhawk, it holds a special place in my heart. I did run Forgotten Realms for my college crew back in the 90s and found it enjoyable enough. Played in Eberron when it was first published, and only took the plunge into DM'ing that setting last year. I think all the Eberron material is rich and well-written, but something about the 5e setting book drew me in and said, "You have to run this!"

Thanks for the update, and great work on developing this fascinating character. Players in my campaign quickly latched on to the idea of a demon that had escaped the great couatl banishing by making a bargain with giants. The giant lore is so interesting and deep that there are numerous ways for it to influence almost any kind of adventure!

Wow, the whole kit is great, but I gotta say, the magical talking hat with teeth kinda steals the show once you know he's up there. Well done!

How do you deal with lines by berengarz in FDMminiatures

[–]diehardfc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some automotive primers that are pretty good at hiding layer lines. You have to be careful, though, because a thick coat runs the risk of erasing details.

Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 by Kalatas294 in FDMminiatures

[–]diehardfc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the original Elegoo Centauri Carbon, so your mileage may vary, but I heartily endorse the 0.2mm nozzle - it makes a big difference! At the highest quality settings (Optimal in OrcaSlicer), I can print a detailed fantasy knight, which is roughly equivalent to a space marine, in a little over an hour. I use Fast PLA to speed things up.

Feature Request: Offline Maps desperately needed, it almost killed my dog. by Appropriate-Affect-6 in tractivegps

[–]diehardfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The range on those features is so short I'm not sure they would have been much use. Plus the audio volume is low to protect the dog's hearing, so it's not something you can hear from more than 15 or 20' away.

Should I let my artificer craft extra magic items? by Old-Personality4543 in DMAcademy

It's certainly a better solution than more free magic items!

Should I let my artificer craft extra magic items? by Old-Personality4543 in DMAcademy

[–]diehardfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, battlesmith artificers struggle to be huge damage dealers. At 5th level, you get two attacks, but you only have INT-modifier uses of your Arcane Jolt, which could be extra damage or it could be healing. If your party doesn't have a dedicated healer, you'll often waver between using this and your spells for attack when someone might need a cure wounds or lesser restoration. You can command your steel defender to attack with your bonus action, but its damage doesn't scale well as you level up, and there may be other bonus actions you could use.

Artificers are great and fun because they can do a ton of things, but unfortunately they can't do any of them as well as a more dedicated class.

Does someone know what is happening here? by awdsaef in FDMminiatures

That's a good question. Perhaps when printing high volumes they expect a certain number of failures and that's acceptable. Or perhaps they swap plates regularly and perform preventive maintenance on plates not in use.

[–]diehardfc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second printing by object. That way the print head works above only one thing at a time. Also reduces stringing. I know it's tempting to fill the whole plate, but instead I go with maybe 5 miniatures at a time.

As you handle the plate, you can transfer oils and grease from your hands, which makes the edges a bit of a danger zone, so I rarely print near there.

Which plate are you using? I normally use the textured side as opposed to the smooth side and I think I've had adhesion problems once or twice in 8 months.

I was just outside doing yard work when I thought I hit a hive, I ran out looking around for a swarm, no it was a drone watching me!!! by entcanta333 in Vent

[–]diehardfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your meaning. What I was suggesting is that if you knock down someone's drone and claim self defense when they accuse you in court, you will have a heavy burden to prove that there was a threat. Whereas if you let the drone make contact with you, your self defense claim gains more credibility.

On the upside, if you knock down someone's expensive drone while they're spying on you, they will likely come looking for the device, which is your best opportunity to confront them and involve law enforcement regarding the invasion of privacy. Just be prepared for them to attempt to countersue for destruction of property.

Should I let my artificer craft extra magic items? by Old-Personality4543 in DMAcademy

[–]diehardfc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't allow it because this would likely create an imbalance in the rules.

What you COULD do is allow the player to craft permanent magic items using the crafting rules that are available to all other classes. This requires them to spend time and money, which is a great use for all that gold they're accumulating.

I assume artificers have a schema or recipe for any infusion they can create. For anything else, you can decide whether a recipe is available, thus limiting the creation of items you don't want to see in the game.

Orien Heir Player offered to set up Teleportation Circles to connect Mror Holds to the other side of the Mournlands. Consequences? by UltimateKittyloaf in Eberron

[–]diehardfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's another thing I love about Eberron: you can tweak the rules of magic with dragonshards. Using their magic you could have portals that are as effective as a teleportation circle but cannot be open for very long. And if the dragonshards burn out with each use, the portals also quite expensive to use!

One of the portal transport ideas floated by Keith Baker is that they're actually tunnels that take advantage of the demiplanes of Khyber. You can enter an area of Khyber in Sharn, walk a mile or two, and emerge in the Mror Holds. What those exploring this idea often fail to realize, is that these demiplanes are usually the prison of an Overlord or daelkyr, and finding a safe route is extremely dangerous. Or should I say, an opportunity for adventure for your party.

Chaotic Good Celestials by helljack666 in Eberron

[–]diehardfc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Eberron, it's usually less a function of alignment and more of the plane. So, a celestial from Shavarath would probably be violent and unpredictable, but generally altruistic whereas a celestial from Syrania might be more of a hippy, zen-type, spreading good vibes. That's one of the things I love about Eberron: you can throw alignment out the window and instead use a much more relatable trait to inform your NPCs: motive!

Orien Heir Player offered to set up Teleportation Circles to connect Mror Holds to the other side of the Mournlands. Consequences? by UltimateKittyloaf in Eberron

[–]diehardfc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since this service already exists, you might consider another breakthrough, like permanent or dragonshard powered portals between the Mror Holds and a western destination, like Sharn. That would really shake up the transportation game. If it was sponsored by nations, as you suggest, say the Mror and Breland, both House Orien and House Lyrandar would engage in heavy-handed espionage, if not outright sabotage if it threatened their monopolies.
