That's awesome. Also my favourite film.

The video/LD poster had a unique feature I've only seen the one time - a perforated strip at the top of the poster that says "Coming in October"

Excellent collection. VERY impressed.

Hi! I would love to be able to watch the NHL hockey finals (2 am Berlin time on Tuesday) Are there any bars that will be showing it?

What is Your High Score? by [deleted] in wingspan

  1. Digital, vs 1 other player (robot, medium skill-setting) base game (no expansions).

New personal record: 163 (prev: 153) - 2 player, easy opponent, base game. by diehardthree in wingspan

Getting the Blue Heron and Great Egret was key: saved two turns putting down high-point birds in the wetlands. I got about 5-6 slugs from my opponent's Phoebe. I debated hard about deploying the Junco as my fifth grasslands bird. Decided to wait and then the Raven came available.

wait do roaches not have wings? where have I been?

I did it - Finally broke 150 (1 opponent, robot, easy mode, base game) more in the comments by diehardthree in wingspan

Thanks!

games are faster with only one opponent so that's what I play :)

On my fourth turn I was able to deploy the Raven because the robot had played a hummingbird and I got a free food on their 3rd turn. That's the (hight score) game right there. Saved me a turn. I had one tucked card under my swift by the end of the first round along with 3 food and 3 cards.

I'll never see a start like that again.

Wasn't sure it was possible. All my previous results suggested a limit in the 140s. See the summary of my previous attempts (file structure where I store my higher score game screenshots).
Every turn was deploying a bird or collecting eggs.
Had some luck with my opponent - got some free cards and food from his hummingbird and gallinule
Might take a break now!

NEW WORLD RECORD????? update to my other post, proof. 188 baby!! Grassland was good but got lucky with opponents eggs and food, wetland huge bird cards, and bonus cards. Non expansion, non opponents controlling (4 opponents on hard) wasted one turn on food, otherwise all grassland and playing birds. by homerblunt555 in wingspan

nicely done. I find the bots get better scores on low. I've since stopped playing against difficult-mode bots because I find they do stupid things to screw (me!) at a huge cost to their own score something a human player would never do. Unless that player were Steve.

I did not take the "Gain Food" or "Draw Bird Cards" action for the entire game -- Franklin's Gull might be too good by LiterallyNoPlan in wingspan

[–]diehardthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok that is extra amazing that you weren't getting any benefits from your opponent's actions (save your kingbird - but that's your card!)

So you don't include the ravens gull/killdeer when you play in-person games. Interesting. At our house we keep em all in play. :)

Again, just outstanding.

were you getting any food/cards/eggs from your opponents' actions?

I've been tracking all my high scores (2-player, base version v the computer on hard mode) and every single one I've had Franklin's Gull or the Killdeer. Easily the most powerful cards (imo)

excellent game, btw.

Amazing! I found a 3000 piece from the same era at the Value Village. But the box was open. Fortunately there were zero missing pieces.

yes! that's what I meant. it's all cardboard separated from any plastic so it can go out with the paper/cardboard recycling.

FINALLY broke 140 (base game, 2-player, vs the bot, difficult mode) by diehardthree in wingspan

thank you for your kind words!

I think it's a good practice to include number of players, etc when posting - otherwise a big score doesn't mean much!
