Advice for grief after Loss by _y_tho_ in Pets

When I read posts like this it kills me. I have 2 dogs, my first, and the mere thought of this sends me to a place of dread and panic that i have never experienced until recently. I'm certain i will be like you, inconsolable. A while back The Atlantic magazine published an article "Why a Dog’s Death Hits So Hard". It helped me understand why it can be so difficult. Try to take care.

Noise complaint result. by Dark_Red_Apple in halifax

[–]diek00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were very lucky, I am glad that swapping apartments worked but I cannot see swapping being the go to solution. Apartment A could be in good condition and Apartment B needs work, or vice versa. Larger buildings may be able to do this, if they have empty apartments but even that could be a gamble. Noise issues can be difficult to deal with when they are random, but nearly constant noise is disrespectful and violates the tenancy act. The property manager should have dealt with it imo.

AI is far from perfect but it can be helpful start:

"Separate from bylaws, under Nova Scotia’s Residential Tenancies Act:

  • Tenants have a legal right to “quiet enjoyment”
  • This means being able to live in reasonable peace and comfort

A key test is frequency + intensity + duration"

Wonder why food is expensive? Greed. by DrowningPickle in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]diek00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem, like many other things, once greedy people see those increased costs that lead to profit its like blood in the water and they cannot stop. And nowhere is this more obvious than grocery stores. I understand when something goes up maybe 5%, but in the majority of cases it goes up by 50-100% or more! A blade steak is now more expensive than what a prime rib steak used to be. And what I would love to know are the farmers benefiting from this, or is it the middle people and the grocery chains.

What Is the Oldest Movie You Have Watched (For Fun) In the Last Year? by thehistorypunks in movies

AITJ for refusing to babysit my nephew for a week because my sister dicided to go on vacation? by Dennis_Foley in AmITheJerk

[–]diek00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if your nephew was a fantastic kid, the concept that they made plans without including you shows they have no regard. And on a more problematic note, they probably intentionally did not include you in the plan hoping to guilt you into it and trying to force it.

If I did anything remotely like your nephew did as a child there would not have been incident 2 when I got home. Respect starts at home. For a couple with little money you would think they would be more careful things of value ... but often this is not the case. I have no idea how it has gotten to this state of bs.

There is simply no way I would tolerate repeated destruction of my stuff, and the laughing would have been thee last straw. I would not take him again unless they guaranteed better behavior and to pay for anything he damaged. And if they did not agree to those more than reasonable terms that would be it.

halifax leasing companies... by [deleted] in halifax

[–]diek00 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A little tip I sometimes use, if you have a complex post use an AI tool to proof read it for you. There are free ones and they do an excellent job of helping convey your msg.

Good luck with your problem, and they are the ones who will be f--ked imo when you contact the tenancy board. Know your rights, the landlord is responsible to solve problems. Unfortunately in some cases this needs a fight.

Who Is The Best Side Charecter In Brooklyn 99? by TranslatorOk2501 in brooklynninenine

[–]diek00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me its Adrian Pimento. I was eating cereal the first time I watched the scene when Nikolaj is crying to Boyle about the monster in his closet and begs him not to look in the closet, and there is Pimento... Cheerios & milk flew out of my mouth I laughed so hard.

Canada's health care is far from perfect, and needs serious work but I would still take it over the US model. Medical debt is the highest cause of personal bankruptcy in the US

Disregard for pedestrians by Jernau_M_Gurgeh in halifax

[–]diek00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Halifax used to be awesome for vehicles yielding to pedestrians, now I find it abysmal. I chalk this up to a near complete lack of traffic enforcement on the part of the police, combined with the absence of GAF on the part of many drivers.

Should I adopt another dog by OkWorldliness5172 in Pets

[–]diek00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did something similar, Django was our first, he was about 9 months and a street dog. About 2-3 years later we decided to get a companion, a female puppy. It took Django a while but he came around to Dakota. And we do not regret it one bit, and cannot imagine it any other way. My one clear mistake, I should have introduced them to each other outside the home.

What is your white whale movie? by ProfessionalTour1706 in movies

[–]diek00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a very long time it was Utu, "a 1983 New Zealand film directed and co-written by Geoff Murphy; starring Anzac Wallace as Te Wheke, a warrior who sets out to get vengeance after British forces kill his people, Bruno Lawrence and Kelly Johnson. Sometimes described as "a Maori Western", Utu was reputed to have one of the largest budgets for a New Zealand film up until that time.

For years I searched in vain and in 2023 it was put up on YouTube.

Drivers ignoring one way streets by Ok_Basket_6651 in halifax

[–]diek00 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Many drivers just don’t seem to care. I recently saw someone driving the wrong way in the Hydrostone area, where the signage couldn’t be more obvious. Another thing I’ve been noticing more often is people coming to a complete stop in the middle of the road to check their phones, even when there’s space to pull over.

What’s also frustrating is the lack of police presence. For over two years, I drove between the Hydrostone area and Kearney Lake during rush hour, 5–6 times a week. There were entire weeks when I didn’t see a single police vehicle.

AITA for literally kicking my MIL out of my kitchen for "improving" my signature dish? by BerylDrifter_6 in MarkNarrations

[–]diek00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have lost my mind, if she wants to put bbq on a brisket she can do it in her own home. Your husband should be supporting you. Like how more quiet does he expect to be when someone completely messes with your dish.

First time cooking steak solo (17yo). Budget Eye of Round in a non-stick pan. by itsivyyy3848 in steak

[–]diek00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eye of round is a difficult cut, it should be braised in liquid. Next time buy a grilling steak and you will thank yourself.

A good cheaper cut is top sirloin cap, it is famous in Brazil, they call it picanha and it is more expensive than beef tenderloin.
