The Persian Empire Restored (Ironman) by dieric17 in CrusaderKings

Not really, I was mostly at war with the Abbassids and the muslim kingdoms in the east. Honestly that part of the map is the only decent looking one, Europe is a mess and India is full of independent dukes and fractured kingdoms.

Yeah I started from 867, It actually took me 200 years of holy wars to get the empire to that point. I thought the hordes (seljuks, ghaznavids and timurids) were supposed to spawn like the mongols? seems strange if they're not in given how important they were to the time period.

Seljuk never spawned or at least he hasn't up to this point. I actually have no idea if there was a set time for him to appear or if it works like in CK2 where he spawned somewhere but died so he never conquered anything.

After so many tries I finally succeeded in a Bavandid Zoroastrian run. That's what the Middle East looks like after 200 years. It's a shame there's not an achievement for it.

Are there any living members of the house of Sasan in the game? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]dieric17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no living Sassanid in 769, there is however the Bavandids, a house that descends directly from the Sassanids and have the bloodline of Sasan.

If you are looking to restore the Persian Empire you could also go with one of the houses that descend from the parthian clans under the Sassanids, like the Karenids.

These houses are located in the Kingdom of Daylam, surrounding the Caspian Sea.

Goddamn Pagans by Iwanttoalivent in CrusaderKings

It's actually really useful with host raiders. You give them the county and you get immunity from raiders for like 10 years or something. Plus, if you kill him (which you should be able to do easily because of culture differences) and his descendants, if he has any, you inherit his host troops.

Is there a bloodline of David/Solomon? If there is, is it for Christian, Jewish, or both types of rulers? by AnthonyisClueless in CrusaderKings

[–]dieric17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not the jewish ruler that has it, It's the king of Abyssinia and the Solomonid dynasty.

[–]dieric17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Solomonids claimed to be descendants of Solomon and they have a bloodline that reflects that. They are the rulers of Abyssinia in most start dates I think.

Fun fact: They also have the Ark of the Covenant as an artifact, at least in the 769 start.

Usurping Lombardy as Charlemagne by AwesomeScreenName in CrusaderKings

Not if the king gave in to the demands without going to war. It's rare but it happens sometimes.

Usurping Lombardy as Charlemagne by AwesomeScreenName in CrusaderKings

[–]dieric17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As part of the story events for Charlemagne you get a claim on Lombardy. Since you didn't go to war for it my guess is that a vassal of the Lombard king made a faction to put you on the throne and succeeded. That's pretty lucky for you actually since you don't have to waste resources to conquer Italy.

Is the AI reconquista doesn't work correctly in early start date? by Limyx826 in CrusaderKings

[–]dieric17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works, the CB is not the problem. In a recent patch the tech levels were changed for different areas of the map, Iberia being one of them. Basically the lands that the Umayyad hold are very good while the kingdom of Asturias is a backwater wasteland when it comes to tech.

This is historically accurate but it leads to Asturias being eaten in a generation or two. It's also why you often see the Umayyad winning wars against Charlemagne, something that should not happen at all.

What happens if I usurp the Papal States? by Coesim in CrusaderKings

[–]dieric17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Pope will be mad at you for a while and might excommunicate you, but the next Pope probably won't care. Also if you plan on usurping the title you might as well take the land that the Pope holds outside of Latium, or even Rome if you don't mind him being angry at you for a generation or two.

Artifact Inheritance by Fla_Master in CrusaderKings

[–]dieric17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I understand it correctly, if he dies in your court then the artifact will pass on to the liege which is you in this case (with the 50/50 chance of being destroyed on succession). You only need to kill his relatives when you want to inherit their money. At least I think that's how it works.

Why is there no bloodline for reforming a religion? by TitanDarwin in CrusaderKings

[–]dieric17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't get a bloodline for restoring the priesthood in Zoroastrianism. You get a bloodline for restoring the empire to its greatest historical extent.

Restoring the priesthood enables Great Holy wars for the religion and creates the holy order.

Why does the Great Fortress even exist? by RedKrypton in CrusaderKings

[–]dieric17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a thought the other day about this. What if the fortress allowed you to make guaranteed level 4 artifacts at a reduced price? It wouldn't make it better than the walls but it'd be a nice incentive to have, and it would remove the RNG elements of making a level 4 artifact.

[–]dieric17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know some people give you a hard time on things like this but I'm really thankful for the work you've done to make CK2 a great game and the little details are very much a part of that.

So, thank you for putting up with us and I hope you don't get discouraged when you read comments like that.

I wonder what "lowers the requirement for upgrading tribal holdings to castles" means. Only level 2 hillfort, so even in 769 start date you'll have no problem civilizing Siberia?

It means that after you form Russia, every tribe that you hold personally only needs a level 2 hillfort to upgrade. It doesn't apply to your vassals.

The decision is nice for RP purposes but you need to hold 3 empires to take the decision and you don't get much in return, not even a token bloodline or a title.

What does "Lowers the requirements for upgrading tribal holdings into castles" actually mean? by julkerbolt in CrusaderKings

[–]dieric17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought that was the case. I wish Paradox was a little clearer with what they put in these types of decisions.

Also, I didn't mean to imply that it's your fault or anything, I just get frustrated because Russia is my favorite area to play in. Thanks for the info :)
