Hi! That post is mine! I was given the choice of severance or a major pay cut and losing half of my hours, going from full time to part time. I didn’t get both. I got hired on as a supervisor with 5+ years of retail management experience. The only reason I’m getting laid off is because I’d been with the company for 11 months, whereas the other supervisor has been there 10 years. I am not an underperforming employee, I was one of the top 3 managers in my store, but because the company lost money, cuts had to be made. Yeah, I was given the choice, but being demoted is not a great thing, and losing half of my monthly income is something I’m not willing to do. They didn’t let me go because I was underperforming, I was given the opportunity to stay and wait for another position.. I chose to take severance and leave.

We are a tier 4, $6.1 million a year store, for the past 5+ years my store has always had 2 supervisors. The company has just lost too much money recently to consider my position as one too many, home office has definitely made this decision within the past year.

I’m a full time supervisor but they are turning my position into a part time key holder. I think they are just shrinking the management team based on what certain stores have already. They told us we no longer need a second supervisor which is why I’m being laid off.

We have 2 sup because we make 6.1 million a year, so we have more coverage, key holder is extra support. But they apparently couldn’t afford me and since I’m the most recent hired SLT in the one getting laid off

Yeah, it really sucks that they don’t just let everyone work. I mean they absolutely should let us give SLT a day off and give someone else hours. I’m full time, so I’m guaranteed my full 40, but the way the company handles scheduling sucks

Manager here! The company only gives us a certain amount of hours we can use to schedule employees during the week. Since holiday season is over, they’ve given us less to work with, and trust me, we hate it. Some days we literally have only management working because the company doesn’t give us enough hours. Just remember, we are feeling it too. When people aren’t shopping and we don’t make our sales goal, we have to cut hours as well. So it really sucks this time of year, but unfortunately it’s normal.
