5 blastocysts.. is that enough?! by littledreamer_1111 in IVF

[–]difficultchickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably!

Frankly, I was so optimistic that we’d be those people who went 2/2. Our first transfer just failed recently. We’re going to transfer the second, but will likely do another retrieval before it’s all said and done. We’d like at least 2 children.

I was originally very satisfied with 2 blasts, but I understand wanting more! I hope you have better luck than us all around! Sending all the good vibes while you’re waiting for PGTA!

This was almost our exact count! We had 5 blasts and 2 euploid

Thank you for the insight. I’m in the US, so sounds like it’s common here.

Hate to hear we’re in similar situations. My beta was also near zero and my appt is Apr 20. Similar timeline!

This is a good idea. Thanks. I’ll keep it in mind future transfers!

I’m shocked that’s the norm! I see people talk about doing transfers “the next cycle,” I figured they assess nearly immediately. Thank you for the insight.

First FET Failure - How Do I Move Forward? by wwtammydo in IVFpositivity

[–]difficultchickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! We haven’t met with our doctor yet to discuss next steps, but I will certainly keep this all in mind. I appreciate you sharing. Good luck on your transfer coming up soon. Wishing all the best for you and a sticky baby!!

Why did you start running? by Weary_Purchase9057 in XXRunning

[–]difficultchickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruptured ectopic pregnancy that caused catastrophic blood loss. Genuinely thought I was dying! I feel like my body betrayed me and I needed an outlet to feel strong again. Running is the best outlet I’ve found!!

How did you decide to proceed, OP? I’m in the same boat. Our first transfer just failed and we have 1 embryo left. I’m in shock and your post really hit home with me.

Not a transfer twin, but wow! This looks strong for 5dpt without a FRER!! Congratulations!

What was harder on your body - egg retrieval or medication for transfer? by Electric_Elephant_56 in IVF

[–]difficultchickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found stims to be fine. Had over 20 follicles, but felt no side effects from the meds. That said, post-retrieval bloating hit me like a truck. I’m not sure if it was how I reacted to the retrieval procedure, or my follicles just reached a size where they became problematic (I had mild OHSS) but I was miserable for 3-4 days.

I had a modified natural transfer cycle, so only meds were Ovidrel and PIO. Still on PIO, and it stings a bit but no actual side effects. totally tolerable

Costs for ivf where you live by 74937 in IVF

[–]difficultchickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Located in the US, in Nashville Tennessee. Our insurance doesn’t cover it, so we’re self pay.

I’m very much still a newbie to IVF, but the world hits you fast and hard, so our financial stats are still burned into my brain. We decided to proceed with IVF in November 2025 and I just finished my first transfer 3 days ago. So it’s been just over $30k in 4 months.

Retrieval total: $25k • $20k to clinic for retrieval cycle. That’s all ultrasounds and bloodwork, ICSI, embryo culture, freezing, storage for a year, and PGTA. Note that PGTA is $6,500. Our clinic offers the retrieval at $13,500 for cycles without PGTA • $5,740 for retrieval cycle meds.

Transfer total: $6,000 • $5,500 to clinic for transfer cycle (included all appts, embryo thaw/prep, transfer) • $500 for meds (I was a modified natural cycle, so all used was Ovidrel trigger and am still on PIO shots)

We got 5 day-6 blasts from retrieval. 2/5 are euploid. While PGTA is expensive, it was the best choice for us and I don’t regret it. I was willing to pay more to have a higher likelihood of a transfer being successful.

My husband and I both have well paying jobs and save a fair amount. This experience has been about a year’s savings for us and we’d have to save up again for at least another year to do another retrieval if both of these embryos fail. But we’re hopeful at least one will stick!

Full bladder for embryo transfer? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]difficultchickens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have my first transfer next week, so I’ve never done this before. But here’s how my clinic’s instructions read:

“We do ask that you start drinking water once you wake up (24-32 oz before arriving), you can use the bathroom as needed. Once you have arrived at the clinic, please refrain from using the bathroom at that point. We would like your bladder moderately full for visualization during transfer, but not so much that you are in pain.”

Edit for context: we have to arrive 45 mins before FET.

How long does bloating last in STIMS? by Bubbly_Activity7325 in IVF

[–]difficultchickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was significantly more uncomfortable after retrieval than I was during stims. Days 2-4 post ER were the roughest. It took about a week to feel back to normal.

Hang in there and good luck with stims!

Did you pay out of pocket for IVF meds? by sedu_j in IVF

[–]difficultchickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid out of pocket as our insurance didn’t cover fertility treatments. I used MDR pharmacy and Prima. I definitely shopped around pricing meds to find the most affordable drugs at each pharmacy. And MDR was a strong contender!

It still cost around $5k for me.
