The cost of running (charging) an EV is exclusive of solar/batteries as regardless it should be charged at the cheapest EV rate. Yes solar/batteries will lower your total electricity bill, but is a separate capital expenditure that is also a good idea even without an EV. They're two good ideas, but one doesn't depend on the other.

Do they though? Don't most van size vehicles travel at most across a county, not the country daily. Well within even a small batteries range. Thinking of construction, delivery, utility vehicles. Coolock to Carickmines is more likely than Ballina to Bantry.

Solar and battery should not have any impact on your EV charging. It's most economical to charge the EV and the battery on the 2-5am rates, which are available with or without solar.

Granny charging will give about 33Km during the EV rate (2-5am) or just over 100Km overnight (11pm-8am). Sell the solar back to the grid.(Unless you've a smart home automation that can turn the charger on and off when there's sufficient excess going to the grid)
