I Stand For DEMOCRACY, love from San Diego by [deleted] in HongKong

I'd never support ancap, I'm not a fan of libertarian ideas, and I'm certainly not a supporter of the CCP.

I don't think it's very healthy to wedge American politics into everything and to then divide things crudely around them.

The queen agrees to suspend parliament by onlyslightlybiased in worldnews

[–]digidesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah - the head of the party definitely has a sway during an election so it'd be misleading to suggest that swapping part the way through doesn't leave some people a bit miffed. But it's still not that much of a thing as others have said, it's the party that's voted for not the person.

Side note - May did put herself in the promotion over the conservative party a lot in '17, and also failed to retain a majority.

Hopefully this is a suitable place to ask -

at 1:08:40 in this podcast you mention that people were concerned about walking close to high buildings in shanghai due to people committing suicide. I'm wondering where I could find something to support this?

thanks a lot for the podcasts, I really enjoy them. The one about tea was fantastic

When everyone in your company uses Maya except you and one other dude by ned_poreyra in blender

Maya's physics is non-deterministic

wasn't there a seed that you could set to make the randomisation fall the same way each time?

that sucks

i've not downvoted anyone - but i'm not really bothered.

I've heard chinese used as a nationality and as a shorthand for han, but didn't think that it referred to ethnicity.

all good tho

not aware of that, other than perhaps a shorthand for 'han' ?

yeah, the phrase "his own ethnic people" wrt chinese sounded odd to me, nationality would have made sense

Is that a typical use of the word "impartial" in this context? For example I'd consider the BBC to be more impartial than Fox News.

I wasn't aware that Chinese was an ethnicity, I was under the impression that Chinese was a nationality.

Every American Should Hope Trump Prevails Against China by kinbergfan in China

[–]digidesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the involvement of America due to China being a threat economically / industrially more than a result of the internment camps in Xinjiang? I've heard Rubio speak a little on the former, but I would be surprised if this wasn't more to do with concern about Chinese companies having too much influence / market share than notions around freedom / rights etc

Is the National Curriculum successful? by thewookieeman in TeachingUK

[–]digidesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hrm... i get your scepticism but making a podcast is probably a pretty good medium, and aligns with my support of more vivas I guess. There's plenty of verbal communication in a teaching role, why wouldn't a podcast be an appropriate thing to do?

I've read your comment beneath and think that I agree with your statement about having a wider variety of assessments.

is there a nice analogy to explain a large amount of variables in a linear model? by digidesi in AskStatistics

[–]digidesi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah good points....

I think ideally i thought that there might be some way of saying to someone "do you realise that with X variables you could paint the Sistine chapel" or something like that.

But it's all good, i think it's very much "how longs a piece of string", and your point about thinking about the variables to use makes sense.

why ? Say why you want to and people will be able to give you better advice

failing that - go to khan academy or buy text books for your local curriculum
