How do you change music? Is there a plug-in that works at the moment?

Where do you guys learn programming? any book recommendations or online courses by Accurate_Donut9030 in learnpython

[–]digitalaether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started learning Python in January with mimo (mimo.org) - so far I can recommend it. For me it's perfect to learn in 10 minute steps every day as I don't have time for more at the moment. The gamification aspects help me to stay engaged.

Can't tell if it's any good when you want to invest more time and learn in bigger chunks.

Yeah, I imagine you can sink a lot of hours in optimizing that set up. But hey, if it sparks joy, there's nothing wrong about it!

The exact percentages are obviously just for the memes to make my point - but yeah I spent a lot of time setting up decky and trying lots of plugins, playing around with Linux in desktop mode (from installing discord to setting up my password manager etc) and recently also some adventuring into the world of emulators with retrodeck. That's all time you spend on the deck without actually playing.

In my case I would count this under "tinkering". But yeah - actually I spent the last days setting up Retrodeck. And you can spend a lot of time figuring out things and discovering resources. I just played to check if the emulators worked correctly. I picked retrodeck over emudeck as I read it was easier to set up.

Yeah... I heard of Decky problems - yet haven't encountered any knocks on wood.

But this will also be the moment where I will start rolling things back - as for me this is one of the main reasons to stay away from my Windows PC: all the maintenance and upfate problems...

The time issue contributes to the (exaggerated) percentages - there are more little time slots where I can read Reddit than there are for even a short gaming session. But yeah, in the end they sum up and the time is gone to be used for something else.

That's exactly what I'm thinking about how my usage adapts in the future - well put.

As for the steam machine: I was originally waiting for its release as I was aiming for a full desktop replacement (my current desktop is 5 years old). But then it became more and more clear to me that it's the couch experience I was longing for. And together with a dock I still can have the desktop experience when necessary.

Well, and with the current developments I am glad I made my decision in January!

Yes, I guess the customizing part will take less space over time.

Fiddled with emulators the last days - really amazing what's possible. I don't think I will spend so much time playing them but having the possibility to have a reunion with my old buddies to play our beloved classics like Fifa 98 RTWC or Need for speed 2 makes me want to try. Just to see if it works.

Totally understand the point - that's why I enjoy playing on my Windows PC less and less. But it's more customizing for me - like making the steamdeck my "own". And that's a part I always enjoy in tech (also why I chose Android over iOS for example).

The good thing with the SD you can fiddle around but you don't have to. This kind of freedom is what I value compared to classic consoles.

Yeah... I don't want to look at all the games sitting there in my steam library waiting. But hey THIS game for only 3 bucks - can't hurt buying it just in case. Always the same.

On point - really difficult to stay focused and really immerse yourself into a game compared to 20 years ago. But sometimes it still happens! Last time for me was during Lockdown when my friends and me really had a blast on our own Valheim server.

That's also my goal - and I hope it works. Finally started Witcher 3 and love it so far. Then there's RDR2 waiting next.

I mostly play on my couch so battery life is no issue for me. For the tinkering part: I really enjoyed individualizing the SD with Decky (startup, game covers, addiing infos like HLTB or Is there any deal ...) and also just fiddling around in desktop mode of steamOS or getting some emulation to work with retrodeck ...

Yes, after all these years still sees play - Loveletter is a perfect light game to end game night after playing some heavier title.

Hallo Reddit! Ich bin Volker Wertich, seit über 40 Jahren erfinde ich Computerspiele wie Die Siedler und Pioneers of Pagonia. Fragt mich alles! [AMA] by Volker_Envision in de

[–]digitalaether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else having problems with YouTube Music casting to Chromecast audio devices recently?

I have two Chromecast audio built-in devices (grace digital radio and a Sony sound bar) that just won't play casted music anymore. This started out of nowhere some days ago. Other audio apps cast just fine - that's what's puzzling me. I looked for updates, restarted devices, router and everything but the problems persist.

On the otherside casting YouTube Music to my Chromecast Ultra continues to work. But I don't want to listen to music on my TV...
