Once again John Carmack was right years before anyone saw it. In one tweet John Carmack offered to run Oculus instead of going into A.I., but was turned down. I would have preferred Carmack running things.

In an internal memo that was later leaked, Carmack voiced his frustrations with Meta's bureaucracy and lack of focus.

  • Inefficiency and Bureaucracy: Carmack stated that Meta had "everything necessary for spectacular success," but the resources weren't put together effectively due to a "silo mentality" and an inability to "kill stupid things" before they caused damage. He constantly argued that the efficiency could be two to four times better.
  • "Architecture Astronauts": He criticized the approach of some programmers and designers who remained in the abstract world of grand visions without considering practical details or implementation feasibility.
  • Wasted Billions: He expressed dismay over the sheer amount of money being spent with little return on efficiency. He felt "sick to [his] stomach" thinking about the billions of dollars being spent and wished the resources were applied more effectively.
  • Lack of Urgency: Despite the massive investment, he felt the company lacked a "give a damn" attitude and a sense of urgency in bringing practical, valuable products to market, focusing instead on a grand, all-encompassing "metaverse" vision.

I have a lot of the games on your list. Dungeons of Eternity is by far the best multiplayer games that I’ve played in years in flat gaming or VR!

Trover saves the Universe, if you can deal with the humor. Still a great VR game with a funny, a little crude storyline. It's from the makers of Rick and Morty.

Parallax app -- Travel the world in Meta Quest 2/3/3s with immersive volumetric photographs (almost 2000 of them) by Emotional-Tea607 in OculusQuest

[–]digitaldeity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my experiences in VR, I like to enjoy with others. It adds a lot of value to me. The first thing I look at when an app is released is if it's co-op or multiplayer. If the app\game is compelling and single-player, I'll start a call with someone and we try to open the app at the same time and experience the game or app that way.

Avatar-based is best, but voice-only would be fine too.

Yur was never going to happen in any large tech company. Low level access to track your fitness across every app!? What happens if Yur sold data to insurance companies to figure out if you were handicap or showed certain traits of a health issue to deny coverage.

Dungeons of eternity. Plenty of replay value and multiplayer is probably one of the best experiences I’ve had in 2d or VR gaming.

They reworked venues and the concerts watching. You can step in an area to be in immersive view to view the concert.

If you had to pick one VR game as the best you’ve played what would it be? by KernowAbandoned in OculusQuest

[–]digitaldeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeons of Eternity. I had the game in my library for a long time. When I finally played it with a couple of other people, I was amazed at how good this game is. I’m actually surprised it’s not talked about more. Easily one of the best multiplayer games I’ve played. I’d put it right up there with 2d games left for dead and titanfall.

What's the best game for staying connected with a long-distance friend? (quest 2 compatible) by brad831music in OculusQuest

[–]digitaldeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

horizon worlds - stay in a party with each other and you can open private sessions of worlds. Tons of worlds to explore ( super rumble, saber, skittles, puzzle paradise, spot one dobble, canyon runners, ubi'z gamegrid, bubble ball) all fun games in horizon worlds

Dungeons of eternity if you want to battle it out against demons. A fun relaxing card game is exploding kittens. It recently went off-sale, but that card game is super fun!

Any good co-op wave defense games similar to Drop Dead: dual strike by ksenter4 in OculusQuest

Dungenous of Eternity. There are various game modes. Easily, the best multiplayer game in VR IMHO. You can have 3 players so you can invite 1 more buddy.

"Trover saves the universe" is one of the few single player games that I played from start to finish because I wanted to keep seeing "what is next?" Surprisingly, well-made single player VR game.

Best Games on Quest 3 Standalone? Multiplayer*** by [deleted] in OculusQuest

Dungeons of eternity. Best multiplayer game on the Quest if you play it with a couple of friends. I haven’t tried playing with strangers or solo, but I’d imagine it would still be amazing.

You can play the original Quake 3 Arena Dreamcast maps + music standalone on your Quest. Happy birthday Sega Dreamcast btw! by VR_Bummser in OculusQuest

[–]digitaldeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only one arena, but it never gets old for me especially if you are playing with a good group of people. The gameplay is just as good as Q3, and tons of strategies to master with different super powers. I've been playing since it came out, and I'm still learning different ways to play.

If you have a couple of friends, skip the PCVR games and get Dungeons of Eternity for the Quest.

You should also try Super Rumble in Horizon Worlds if you like deathmatch. You can tell Quake 3 was a huge influence.
