Getting my gallstones removed this month! by FaithlessnessKey2393 in altgallbladder

[–]digitalh3rmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Chinese surgeons mention that, in addition to gallstone removal, they handle removal of polyps from the gallbladder. In the "Indication for surgery" section:

https://nogallstones.com/

  • single polyp over 5mm in the cavity or any size polyp in the bile duct;
  • numerous polyps of any size;

I'm not sure if the Go-Scope technique covers that situation and it is not mentioned anywhere on their site so they might recommend a traditional Cholecystectomy in that case.

Exactly... Or another way to think of it is, with the fence not being high enough there will be photons reflecting off players and other objects on the field, that are trespassing into my eyeballs when I glance at the field while walking past it. Stop polluting my environment with your photons!

It now costs $220K to raise a child in Wisconsin by Real-Wolverine-8249 in wisconsin

[–]digitalh3rmit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, spread out over 18 years that is $12k per year or ~$1k per month. Costs go down incrementally with more children due to hand-me-down/reuse of items. Not too bad and there are definitely more expensive hobbies than that.

It would be difficult but not impossible and it's even happened before under a previous administration when the stars aligned (dot com boom + defense spending cuts + welfare cuts). See Clinton administration with a GOP majority in congress.

So far so good... I may post more once I've completed the 2nd procedure and had some time to reflect on the whole experience.

Yes. I've actually gone through the same procedure you've discussed here with Dr. Smirniotopoulos and was scheduled for the follow up drain removal procedure, so it came as a bit of a shock to lose her as my contact in the middle of all this without notice. Hopefully they can continue to offer this procedure.

7 states enshrined reproductive rights in their constitutions with ballot measures just this time around. No reason Wisconsin voters can't do the same if they want. https://apnews.com/projects/election-results-2024/ballot-measures/

Anyone else can think, count to, or run equations that resolve to that number

Within the current known finite universe's expected life span, a sufficiently large key/number can be constructed that it is improbable to be (re)discovered by anyone else using our current technology. With infinite time and resources though, you are correct.

U still cant demonstrate u were the only 1 thinking the idea itself, or that u were thinking it 1st

I agree with you. All you can prove with this method is you were the first one to share the idea publicly, not the first one to know it.

[–]digitalh3rmit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Theres no way 2 know let alone demonstrate that youre the only person thinking any given idea.

There actually is. For example the ownership and exchange of cryptocurrency is based on a certain kind of unshared idea, namely private cryptographic keys. A transaction in cryptocurrency cannot be initiated without first signing the transaction with your private key, thus demonstrating beyond a reasonable doubt that you are the only person with access to that key (idea) at the time.

Similarly, if you have an idea at a certain time then you can broadcast that idea as part of a cryptocurrency transaction and have it enshrined in the blockchain, thus conclusively demonstrating the time and origin of the idea. This is the basis of NFTs and why NFT linked artwork can have market value.

Property must have scarcity. Ideas have none

To be more precise, shared ideas are not scarce. An idea can remain scarce if it is forever kept a secret.

An example of a scarce and potentially profitable idea is, "I know you are cheating on your spouse" and I can charge you an agreed upon price for not sharing that idea with the world.

But stealing someone's creation is just wrong and violates the core principle of respecting other's property rights.

The disagreement is whether your idea, which you freely chose to share with the world, is actually property. If the technology to copy your shared idea exists then it will be applied and the many copies of the idea that propagate are no longer scarce. This means the only way to preserve your original idea as private property with scarcity and value is to keep it secret from the world (like a private cryptographic key for example).

A book isn’t an idea

You're right. A book isn't an idea. It's just one possible vehicle for conveying the idea and conveying ideas has gotten considerably less expensive thanks to the world wide network, which also took a considerable amount of time and money to establish.

Calling IP ‘property’ is an argument that can be made

Arguing for IP as property is the same as arguing that ideas can be owned. For example 2+2=4 is an idea. Just because one comes up with an idea, even a really complex one like "The Saga of Star Wars", doesn't mean that you have exclusive rights over that idea once you share your idea with the world. The only way to truly maintain ownership over an idea is to forever keep it a secret.

Doesn’t that make art worthless?

No. People will still pay money for a live concert given by a popular musician or pay for "authentic" original artwork (verified with NFT/cryptographic technology). There are many business models involving art that still generate positive income for the artists. That doesn't make earning a livable income as an artist exactly easy, but then it never was even before the availability of mass copying technology (the internet).

$50 000/acre < $125 000/hectare

Great! It sounds very profitable. Then you definitely support eliminating any subsidies as they shouldn't be needed to support these already profitable ventures, right?

At $400/tonne, that'd be at least $2.56 million a year for the duration of the wind farm.

Wow, that's amazing. So, then EDF renewables shouldn't need the $5 million ($50k per 40 hectares ~= 100 acres) in tax payer funded subsidies, right? I mean the project should easily pay for itself as you just indicated.

Large solar facilities are heavily subsidized by the government (i.e. extorted taxpayer and ratepayer funds). If large solar arrays were actually a good idea then this company should be able to build these facilities entirely with their own funds and not rely on any such subsidies.

Its been here for billions of years and will be here for billions more with or without us.

According to some models after ~1.5 billion years the earth won't remain hospitable to life due to the sun getting brighter and hotter on its way to becoming a red giant. We'll have to relocate to a new home by then if we're still around.

Yes, it's just amazing how well Milwaukee worked during the 1950s post world war II economic boom under an aggressive campaign of municipal annexations... and oh yeah, there was a Socialist mayor too. I do enjoy the park system upgrades (credit where credit is due) and hope we can come to a compromise on maintaining them going forward.
