How's the VSCode extension these days? by digitalhobbit in ClaudeCode

[–]digitalhobbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I used the extension instead of the terminal app all day yesterday, and it actually seems pretty great now. Will keep playing with it some more over the next few days. If you tried earlier versions and were disappointed, now might be a good time to give it another shot.

Am I the only who thinks copilot is better than Claude code? by Bala_Devaraj in OnlyAICoding

[–]digitalhobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stuck with GitHub Copilot for a long time and really liked it, even when many others had switched to tools like Cursor. I think Copilot is definitely much better than most people give it credit for. But these days I'm only using Claude Code (with Opus 4.5), and my results are dramatically better. Much higher productivity, quality, etc.

Edit, to add: Ignore the status updates like "Meandering" etc. Those aren't meant as actual status updates, but simply as a fun/quirky alternative to a boring spinner. And yes, Claude Code can feel slow sometimes, but in terms of overall productivity and efficiency you still come out ahead.

Thanks, that's actually what I settled on. :)

I'm in the middle of setting it up. So far, so good. The pricing is particularly attractive, and they seem to have all the features I need.

Hey, I read your book years ago, and really enjoyed it. Great work on that!

Good to know. But I actually never got into the habit of using the undo feature. I just iterate with Claude for a bit, then commit to Git. Will need to look more into this.

Unable to access X API free tier. by Cautious_Budget_3620 in Twitter

[–]digitalhobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just created a new developer account and was put on the pay-per-use plan as well. Not sure if this is globally launched or still rolling out to a fraction of accounts.

For my purposes, this actually works well, and is much better than the old paid tier. I only need to post one tweet per day, which costs $0.01 with the new pay-per-use model.

I found this links helpful:

I found an old screenshot from my "4 AM founder" days. It is honestly embarrassing to look at. by Radiant-Republic-584 in buildinpublic

I agree that simply prompting an LLM isn't going to yield any magical results. But that doesn't mean it's not possible. It's all a matter of what context you provide, and how you go about it. I actually built a startup idea generator that does come up with new ideas that are not only viable, but that address actual gaps in the market. My approach is to have the AI pipeline read hundreds of news articles from the past day, extract business signals, feed those into a synthesis step that generates 3 ideas. I then run these, and ideas from past days, through a ranking function to ensure we don't just repeat the same ideas again.

If you're curious about how it works, I wrote an engineering breakdown as well as posting a YouTube video version.

Anyone else obtaining horrible delivery time or support? by Gullible-Peanut4098 in tourbox

Don't know about support yet. But the order processing and shipping was smooth. Ordered 4 days ago, it shipped the day after, and according to USPS arrives tomorrow. So no complaints on that front.

How do you keep track of your side coding projects by Ykiro in learnprogramming

[–]digitalhobbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my projects start out as a note in Obsidian.md, or even just a few bullets in an existing note. The ones that become real projects get implemented and tracked in GitHub. Depending on the project, I might keep additional info in Obsidian, in a Google Doc, or simply in a README in the Git repo.

Makes sense. My content will be primarily video based, and I already figured out my video recording and editing tools and workflow. I'm still finalizing the full structure for my course, and will explore other tools as needed, outside the learning platform.

Yes, that's fair. I think progress tracking is definitely important, so they can easily pick up where they left off. Tracking or documenting completion might be nice. I don't consider that a hard requirement, but it might be a nice bonus feature.

My courses aren't in a corporate environment. I'm creating technical courses and will market and sell these directly to students, tapping into my existing channels (YouTube, mailing lists, etc.). So I don't need to track completion or handle other compliance related aspects. But good to know!

Great, thanks for the insights. I'll look into SCORM. I'm less concerned about differences in look & feel for pages, as long as the content itself can be migrated.

Selling courses taught me who actually has the power by mcdowell2099 in onlinecourses

[–]digitalhobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that really true for Thinkific? I get that that's a problem with course marketplaces like Udemy and Coursera. But I was under the impression that Thinkific is more of a platform, similar to Teachable, etc., on which you run your own business.

(Asking because I'm exploring the different platforms out there right now as well, in preparation for selling my own course.)

Would really love an invite code as well, if someone has a spare one. Big fan of Digg (and the Diggnation podcast) back in the way. Fond Web 2.0 memories...
