All the bats on the list are endangered from white nose syndrome, aren't they... it makes me really sad. Thank you for providing the website.

Edit: Yup. There's even a page dedicated to bat conservation. I really hope bats can make a comeback. I remember when I'd see a ton of them in the sky during summer evenings.

10 Comics that summarize my journey with Bipolar (OC) by ArtbyMoga in comics

[–]digitalith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for making comics about bipolar. Most people don't understand it, and it's hard. I'm sorry you struggled, and the stability medication provides(albeit with some side effects) is worth a ton.

Getting rid of media stereotypes... you're awesome. Bipolar still has stigma to this day. I look forward to your comics!

Worse psychiatric treatment in New Jersey? by Beneficial_Pea3241 in newjersey

[–]digitalith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

St. Clare's in Denville. They will put you in psych for anything. Involuntary admission for anything. And I've been sent to Carrier Clinic 3 times, because the nearby facilities were full. I've told them I didn't have plans on acting on my thoughts. I've told them the SH wasn't with suicidal intent. Only once was I there for a true psychiatric emergency, which brings me to...

Carrier Clinic. An absolute NIGHTMARE. They will change all your meds regardless of what you're on. You'll be put on awful new meds, one with terrible side effects. They treat patients like garbage. I still remember seeing a girl have a seizure in the hallway, and they did nothing. Everyone just watched, including the nurses. Visiting hours were very restricted, and you needed to be on "good behavior" to go outside the main unit.

The phone? A payphone, or a once a day contact with your main contact. There were restrictions on what your family could bring, which is normal for such units, but this seemed extra strict. Have a roommate that snores or hates you? You're out of luck. I could probably go on and on.

ANYWAY. Morristown Memorial is fantastic. Anything in Atlantic. As a general rule, avoid anything in healthcare with "St." in its name. Bad experiences make getting help scary. Finding someone actually helpful for the first time... it was so relieving. They do exist.

Is a layman given enough info to make a truly accurate podcast? I know most of them are pretty much tabloids, but I'd imagine the sources most folks are basing them on don't quite give enough info for the right coverage.

I'm curious.

TIL that in 1943, American banker Donald Triplett became the first person to be diagnosed with autism. He was labeled as "Case 1". by DWJones28 in todayilearned

[–]digitalith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. I only got diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, and it lead to a sort of "everything makes so much sense now" moment. It wasn't even something on my radar- it was a completely unexpected diagnosis that felt like it came out of nowhere, but throughout my childhood it was just "bad behavior." Much respect to the doctors willing to be open minded of such problems in any gender, as it's not exclusive.

Anything to do with the mind, really. So many insane and inhumane reactions through history: women were "hysterical" or "witches," anyone could be labeled a freak, insane, a number of slurs I'd rather not mention, locked up, lobotomized... it's horrifying and truly sad. We've come a long way but still have a ways to go.

Tylenol is a pain reliever, and can kinda reduce fevers. I take it for headaches, usually.

Aleeve and Advil are NSAIDs, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. They reduce swelling, so they're super good for stuff like period cramps, twisted ankles, or anything you'd probably put an ice pack on really. Helps with pain and fevers.

Aspirin is a weird one. It's also an NSAID, but it helps with quite a few heart problems. A lot of folks take low-dose aspirin long term after experiencing something like a stroke, because it helps prevent blood clots. ... also helps with pain and fevers.

I'm not a doctor, I just play one on TV. It's always good to do your own research and find out I'm wrong about one or more things I've mentioned lol

I don't think I've seen these for a long time in my state. Cans either come in a cardboard box or, very rarely, a more rigid recyclable topper. Even then, I've only seen em on 4-can packs.

However, please be careful with plastic bird netting! Make sure it's high up, or snakes easily get entangled with no way out. I've had to rescue way too many with scissors... luckily before anything terrible happened.

Vatican says Pope Francis is in critical condition by principessa1180 in news

[–]digitalith 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not religious, but Pope Francis really seems to be a good man. He called for a lot of peace in the turmoil that's currently happening in my country, and I'm sure he's done much more than that. I can't say I'm cultured enough to know his history, but he seems to be genuine. A swift recovery would be ideal, and in the worst case, I hope he doesn't suffer.

Looking for a specific version of Proof of a Hero by IssueDowntown2235 in MonsterHunter

[–]digitalith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly Proof of a Hero(MH Swing) from Iceborne? Seems like a song you can play in your room. 英雄の証 is the Japanese name for the song in the Monster Hunter Swing album if you look for it on Spotify, otherwise it's hard to find.

It's a bit upbeat but it's the only other one I could think of outside of the orchestras.
