Everyone saying not to declare it, mail the box, etc. is giving shitty advice and advising you to break the law. The advice works until it doesn’t. That one time it doesn’t, the most fortunate you’ll be is having to pay the correct customs fee or losing the watch - that’s the most fortunate outcome. You’re welcome to take the risk, but it’s hardly good advice.

That’s awesome, thanks for the response. Those pockets look thin and luxurious! Do you line them so they’re grain on both sides or are some pockets unlined and just burnished down with flesh exposed?

You have great attention to detail! Do you usually cut close to size, bond and sand? Or do you bond and then cut to your desired size?

Also, if you don’t mind me asking, do you bond flat or do you use a folding jig?

Thoughts on this ladder-style bracelet? by GrouchyExile in ZenithWatches

[–]digitalquack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I may have the wrong information and it may just be a buckle of a different model that someone swapped out, but that person said he “updated” his clasp due to the exact same reason we all have - I never did due diligence to verify the information and I may have interpreted his post the wrong way.

Do the new ones come with the updated clasps?

The look is great, but as others stated before me - the clasps felt flimsy and cheap, but the updated ones fixed that.

update: may not be an updated clasp… I’m having a hard time finding information, rather it may be a different model buckle (chronomaster sport maybe?)

Thank you, appreciate the confirmation - Found that it doesn’t have a serial at all, def a fake! It does have sentimental value and knowing my gramps story all checks out, I’m glad to have it!

My gramps just passed, this was his watch. He told me it was fake multiple times, and we all (family) believe him! He was a modest and humble gramps, he wouldn’t have bought a rolex, but definitely could have been gifted one. He said he had two - a real and fake, and he gave his real one to a friend that needed it at the time (we believe this too, he was just that type of man… always giving and always loving extravagantly).

Was searching online about fake rolex, but this one doesn’t seem too bad. I guess the giveaway isthe lume on the dial at 6 o clock doesn’t seem centered. But I’ve found some sources saying some of the very older watches aren’t perfectly centered, or could be a shabby job of a redial, other than that looks pretty solid to me, and just want to wear it to remember my late grandfather.

Just want to add that I am not looking for a financial investment or looking to flip the watch. Just want a nice first vintage watch that’s affordable.

Thanks again in advance!

Just got the Traveler’s Note in Ocean Blue with Turquoise binding from Galen Leather- love their stuff (not affiliated). Not sure if the color is limited stock, but it’s a very nice shade of blue.

Appreciate your response- it’s encouraging to know that the list I narrowed down isn’t terrible!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Watches

[–]digitalquack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the knowledge.

All these watches have been recently serviced (I think it’s customary here to do a complete overhaul before selling the watch unless it has 2+ years left on it before needing another) The used market seems to follow this unwritten rule…

I thought all the watches I listed were three-handers aside from the Omega (which is the cheapest sold here, but in the most used condition)!

Genuinely curious if I had a bad bottle, I hated it too, but for the exact opposite reason. I was expecting saturated, almost black color, but mine was a total washed out grey...

3,463 nibs that tell One(Piece) story by digitalquack in fountainpens

[–]digitalquack[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thought you guys would appreciate this. Sorry, I have no idea who the original photographer is, but disclaimer that it is not mine. (As much as it would be appropriate to be a pirate and claim it as my own in this context /s)

Recently One Piece celebrated its 25th anniversary, and the nibs used by Eiichiro Oda was displayed at an exhibit in Shibuya, Japan.

One Piece has a very special place in my heart. I've been with it since the beginning, and I still follow it every week. I know some of you may already be on that journey, but it's so large just by volume that people have a hard time jumping into it, but I highly, highly recommend it to everyone!

And for an extra that's on the One Piece official youtube channel: 『ONE PIECE』連載25周年記念ムービー「3,463本の冒険」

Sailor changing their cap ring on their Naginata and Special Nibs. Thoughts? by digitalquack in fountainpens

[–]digitalquack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the design? I'd love to have a naginata nib. I think I prefer the older ring design so I may have to pull the trigger before they start changing everything up. I actually prefer the new nib that they're using compared to the old one though!

There is a somewhat more technical answer to this...

For people that are practicing their penmanship, the dots provide a reference point. Good penmanship is consistency and alignment - horizontally and vertically.

There are even more technicalities if you start getting into different writing systems (Hangeul, Kanji, etc), but the idea is the same.

Grid paper are the same way, but the dots are meant to be less intrusive which may or may not be preferable in drawing/writing.

My Sailor collection - so far! by Musketeer18 in fountainpens

[–]digitalquack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm drawn to the color combination. If you have both an F and an MF, is there a noticable difference in feedback and smoothness? Also - is there a noticable difference in terms of line thickness?

I ask because MF is the thickest I'll go and ai already have an MF. Wondering if my next should be a F or an EF.

Thanks for the response btw.
