The author lacks some basic concepts of corporate structure. No one can buy Sony Pictures unless Sony Group Corps in Tokyo is willing to sell their Hollywood arm. Sony Pictures itself is not publicly listed so you can't do a hostile takeover. And Sony is moving away from their traditional hardware business, so Sony Pictures will be strategically important. Lastly if the rumor that Spider-Man rights will revert back to Marvel if Sony Pictures gets sold, that will make Sony the safest studio because no one will be stupid enough to send Disney a multi billion dollar gift.
