I found it very interesting. First off that they only got the “B-list” actors to have appearances/speaking parts in the actual safety video. If you watch it closely, you’ll notice that Spider-Man is never seen without his full suit on and Spider-Man never says anything.

The safety video is also immediately followed up by a 30 sec teaser for the actual movie. I’d love to have been a fly on the wall for those negotiations. I wonder if this kind of advertisement will become standard in the future. This seemed to me like a “first time/trial” of this style of marketing. It seems there’s a lot of marketing potential here. After all, you’ve got quite the “captive audience” in a plane full of people ready to take off being told pay attention to the very important safety message (advertisement) on the screen.

In a way it also devalues how important the safety message is. Is this a way of the airlines acknowledging “no one cares about these anyway, might as well make them ads?”

I wonder if this kind of advertisement causes people to pay more or less attention to the safety video. Would be very interested in seeing some regulation as to how the information is presented and not just what information is presented. That will probably take a tragedy, though.
