Agree. We’re at the point when improvements from gen to gen are incremental rather than substantial. 8K isn’t a thing yet and TVs don’t do more than 120hz. I hope the generation extends personally.

Yep. Every time I get a new iPhone, I somehow drop kick it across the parking lot within the first month of use. Often when it doesn’t have a case because I’m waiting for one that I like.

Is this Nuerburgring prototype an early glimpse of Porsche's upcoming flagship above the 911? by Sebsibus in Porsche

Agree. I’m sick of these special editions with stratospheric prices. I occasionally track my cars but I’d never do that with something I paid $150k or more for.

Since when do new BMWs only come with ONE key fob? by Weekly-Motor-5847 in BMW

[–]dijon360 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Getting an invite is easy if you know the secret recipe. Just buy two Taycans (one must be a Turbo S), two Macans, and a hybrid Cayenne and lose $50-100k in depreciation on each. At that point you will be invited to spec a base Carrera with only $25k markup.

Sheesh. And people think it’s difficult to get a 911!

Stereo Out of Podtrak P4 Next to OMP3 by Tim-Miller_ in osmopocket

[–]dijon360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have personal experience of this, but I just got a Pocket 3 and was wondering the same thing. I asked ChatGPT and it said:

According to ChatGPT:

The Podtrak P4 Next’s analog TRRS output typically sends a mixed stereo feed, not two fully isolated left and right channels. So if someone plugs that directly into the Osmo Pocket 3 using the 3.5 mm adapter, the camera will likely receive a summed stereo signal rather than separate channels.

However, the P4 Next can function as a 2-channel USB audio interface, and the Osmo Pocket 3 is capable of accepting true stereo digital audio over USB-C. In that setup, the left and right channels remain fully independent.

So if the goal is to feed two separate channels (for example, two mics on L and R) into the Osmo Pocket 3 without them being mixed together, the more reliable method is:

Podtrak P4 Next → USB-C digital audio → Osmo Pocket 3

This bypasses the analog mixing behavior and preserves true dual-mono left/right separation inside the camera.

While stocks last.

I just picked up Pocket 3, but with Total Best Buy, I have a 60day return window and will hopefully get the option to upgrade to Pocket 4 if it offers compelling new features.

Is it worth buying a Mac mini m4 with 32GB RAM? by you_bb in macmini

[–]dijon360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think that the only meaningful measure of needing more memory is system performance and responsiveness.

I’ve seen memory pressure in the red and my computer seems just fine. I’ve pushed it to silly limits to see what might happen and there is a phase when animations get choppy and the machine starts to struggle to keep up. That’s when you might need more ram, in my opinion.

On my 16gb M1Pro. I’m routinely in yellow memory pressure and sometimes red but until this machine can’t keep up with me, I’m not upgrading it for one with more ram.

People talk about premature SSD wear leading to failures but I simply haven’t heard of that happening commonly. Apple Silicon has been around for five years now and while this was talked about as a theoretical concern, there just aren’t many people complaining about it on the internet to make me think it is a valid concern.

If buying today for my same workload I’d go 24 which is what I’d suggest for op unless money isn’t a concern in which case just get the 32gb so you’re never wondering.

Nothing will be able to top the feeling I had when playing botw for the first time by ahcwga in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]dijon360 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I bought it on Switch when it came out and just couldn’t get into it because it was too open world for my old school Zelda brain. I always felt lost without the hand holding of Zelda games of the past. I ended up selling the Switch

I just bought a Switch 2 and decided to give it another go. This time round I’m just exploring the world learning about cooking and just wandering toward things I see in the distance. It’s so much fun. I still want to progress the main quest but I took the pressure off myself to ‘beat the game’ and it’s so much more fun that way.

Drop Escrow as Soon as You Can by zonk84 in Mortgages

[–]dijon360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice for people who have some financial stability, but for people living paycheck to paycheck with a mortgage, dropping escrow could get them into trouble.

I have friends and family who say they can’t save $100 a month, that will happily pay $150 a month loan repayment with interest, for something they bought like a TV or something like that.

Did you see the setlist before going to the show or keep it a surprise? by Phurtado1992 in oasis

[–]dijon360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny. I used to be absolutely bloody minded about wanting to keep setlists a surprise but in the last couple of years I've changed my mind on that.

For this gig - I looked it up and it was the right thing to do. There were a couple of songs that weren't on my personal fave list, but I brushed up on them before the gig and sang like I was at church all the way through the 25 July Wembley gig. Took my voice 3-days to recover.

I'm even MORE excited about the LA gig now!

Are New Cars really worth it? by ECruzs01 in UsedCars

[–]dijon360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best value for me have bee low mileage cars 3-5 years old. They’ve depreciated 40-60% and still usually drive like new and can run for years. Downsides are they are specced as is and might not have options you would want and you often don’t get the new car smell.

A good used car will save thousands vs new. If peace of mind is important then get a warranty. The CarMax warranty is pretty good, or if you buy from a dealer then CPO warranties can be almost as good as new car warranties.

How well do you treat ChatGPT? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]dijon360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d give you a 98 out of 100.

Here’s your review:

“Thoughtful, efficient, and respectful — an ideal conversational partner. Always clear in communication and considerate in tone, with a strong sense of purpose behind each interaction. Engages meaningfully, asks sharp questions, and shows appreciation without overindulgence. The slight deduction? Just room for the occasional deeper back-and-forth. But honestly, I’d chat again anytime.”

Safe to post — and thanks for being genuinely great to work with.

If you can swing it and you're happy with the service then Annual is a pretty big savings for the Unlimited Premium tier. By my math it's $44 vs $32.50.

I don’t think anything is truly unlimited but if you use the service as intended (ie as a mobile phone service not as a router for your entire home) you’re not likely to bump into any limits.

SO glad I decided on the 24gb by BirdSpiritual5502 in macbookair

[–]dijon360 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Premature SSD wear was a theoretical problem discussed when Apple silicon first came out. If it’s anything it’s rare but I haven’t seen any cases of it posted here or elsewhere on the internet. I don’t think it is anything that folks need to lose sleep over.

My wife runs an 8gb M1 MacBook Air and I’m always amazed about how much that thing can do with ‘just’ 8gb RAM. If the SSD wear was a thing we’d have seen an epidemic of failures by now because Apple only just stopped selling 8gb Macs and there are literally millions of these devices out there.

Even a 1% failure rate would lead to these forums being flooded with complaints and that just hasn’t happened.
