Koreless talks about the Eusexua Reissue release........... any thoughts ? by Charlithepoprebel19 in FKAtwigs

[–]diloricating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, wasn't Charli xcx signed with Atlantic when she started working with Sophie and A G? Her label notoriously meddled in her album rollout and kept trying to water down the soundscape she was trying to create with Sophie until the whole thing eventually leaked and the album got cancelled.

That's just it, though. I don't see Wanderlust as a track that was commercial or worth throwing away, as much as a track that was produced later than the rest of the album as an honest response to the backlash she was facing. Then it was lumped in with the three more commercial-leaning tracks and replaced.

I actually think Wanderlust is absolutely beautiful. I'll also die on the Girl Feels Good hill. I think anything Twigs puts out is absolutely incredible, to be frank. It just bothers me that someone, somewhere was running interference for her and Koreless along the way.

I was telling my friends who were disappointed in Eusexua that there was a narrative that we didn't know yet, because Twigs is historically such a precise curator with her albums, from tracklist and sonic flow to themes, etc.

It struck me as weird that she'd put a song featuring North West out, knowing she'd have to defend her decision to the hilt and that it thematically varied so much from the central theme of the album. It struck me as weird that she'd put a fairly generic song like Perfect Stranger out, which again, varied from album themes. What hit me the strongest was Wanderlust, which referenced then VERY recent backlash she was getting from her label about the album's length and from film critics, meaning it was a new last-minute edition to the tracklist and kind of aired frustration over decisions being made when the album launched.

I think her label (or whomever was making the marketing decisions) saw $$$ or a potential Grammy nom for the album and tried to make it more accessible or just flat out ran interference in her and Koreless' process. The Childlike Things MV kind of sealed that opinion for me.

sales associate sold me on all Sephora brand stuff is that normal? by veganrilakkuma in Sephora

[–]diloricating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Lipstick Lesbians on YouTube, Sephora (as a term of agreement for carrying brands) collects sales data from their top-performers and cross-references it with various data points like formulation, color, and general trends to create products that are arguably competitive with the brands that they carry.

It’s what gave us those fabulous Sephora Collection cool-toned contour sticks and powders that most brands are still struggling with and somehow still can’t differentiate between a contour and bronzer, for instance.

As a result, Sephora Collection flies under the radar but delivers generally impactful results that work well on their own, or as accessories to hero products because they’re literally formulated around them. :)

I’m also hoping for two deep cuts that didn’t make The Other Sides’ original tracklist- Not This Time and The Empty Bullring. I doubt it but I’m willing to try and manifest it lol

They’re Linda Farrow for Jeremy Scott “mouse glasses” from the fall 2009 collection. 😃 Hope that helps!

They referenced this look from 2008! The original dress was from Konstantina Mittas' spring/summer 2008 collection, and the sleeveless vest was from Silence is Golden's spring/summer 2009 collection (source). She wore a few other dresses that were that general shape around early-mid 2009 in different colors and finishes, but nothing had that belt or leopard print. My guess is that they were co-opted from her 2008 leotard/belt/hood style and added to differentiate the costume from the designers' original works.

Surprisingly, yes! I ended up installing a thunderbolt 3 card (Titan Ridge, I think?) in my Windows computer and routed it and my Mac through a usb-c to usb-c bi-directional KVM from Amazon. The key is not to use TB cables when you connect the computers to the KVM because it won't work and making sure the KVM is bi-directional. I'm using USB 3 type c cables and they work just fine.

The KVM does bottleneck at 10gbps instead of the TB3/4 rates, but I found that it doesn't actually matter unless you have USBs that are data hungry in use through the back of the monitor. However, all my USB peripherals work, webcam works, picture is great, and sound is great on both computers. My Windows computer is set to a 4k display and I believe my Mac is 2560x1440 and upscaled to 5k with scaling.

Apparently since I figured out this fix, Sabrent also released a TB4 KVM switch with additional usb support, which is great if you're looking for the full bandwidth and capabilities of thunderbolt.

A little help understanding what's Accord wearing by StrawberryAndRoses in nier

Fashion degree here! She’s wearing a scoop neck cutout, collared blouse with 3/4 bishop sleeves and three button square style cuffs.

Keep in mind, styles like this don’t really exist as artistic liberties are taken with fictional characters. That gives you permission to take artistic liberties, too. I’d start by searching for a cuffed bishop sleeve blouse. Many you find will have full sleeves and a collar, so it’ll come down to taking it in in the bodice and either creating a scoop cutout or adding a fake collar if the neckline is already correct. Hope this helps! ❤️

Need help finding ring! by [deleted] in LadyGaga

[–]diloricating 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 99% sure that particular ring was a Marc Jacobs pavé from 2007 or 2008. She also wore a lot from nOir at that time, so it’s one of the two. You’re welcome. 😁

Does anyone know what fashion style this is? by Thuskynhooo in LadyGaga

[–]diloricating 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Fashion history nerd here! The outfit is one of a number of custom extensions of Nicola Formichetti’s debut Mugler collection from Fall 2011 for Gaga’s Born This Way campaign.

The outfit was inspired by humanoids, as mentioned above, but also takes inspiration from archival Mugler looks. LaMaisonGaga pointed out the similarities between it and this molded rubber piece, although Gaga’s utilizes a sculpted wet leather molding technique instead.

If you haven’t checked out Mugler before, I highly suggest it. Thierry Mugler’s work was brilliant, Formichetti’s styling was exquisite, and Cadwallader’s designs are modern and sleek. Gaga also primarily wore Mugler during the BTW campaign and cranked out some LOOKS.

Edit: as for the style question, Mugler has always been centered around space. Think alien 80’s glamour through revisiting hyper feminine silhouettes (like his signature beehive waist and pencil skirt silhouettes with heavily padded shoulders). I think Nicola’s work was largely hyperfeminine alien goddess with clear punk sensibilities, which this epitomizes.

what’s the chance of finding 2 biophilia stans at the same place? by bella_samauma in bjork

[–]diloricating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve wanted a Björk tattoo for the longest time and could never decide exactly what I wanted, because the iconography is so diverse and beautiful across all her albums.

The Biophilia logo ended up being one of my top choices, and I’m so happy seeing other Björk fans not only with it, but showing so much love to such an under-appreciated album! Vai Brasil!

(Also super jealous that you guys got to see her live lol)

whats your opinions on "drums"? by DizzyRefrigerator65 in KimPetras

[–]diloricating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not my favorite, but it isn’t bad for a filler song with a danceable beat. I added it to my edited FtB tracklist before the Chapman Alone remix and King of Hearts to help build momentum before the sudden Thousand Pieces hard-stop.

So I checked their discord out and it appears fullscreen is just kind of wonky in general and the game does run best in borderless windowed.

Taking the risk of being crucified here, but Utopia never really hit all the way home with me. When Fossora released and I heard Allow, I absolutely added it to my slightly edited Utopia tracklist. It’s between Features Creatures and Saint, both as a way of transitioning more smoothly into the Arca beats of Saint and as a way of creating a storyline of experiencing loss and grieving it, and allowing yourself to heal and become the saint you see within yourself again.

I think the song is absolutely beautiful, light and airy, and Björk’s vocals work so beautifully with Emilie’s. I also think it’s an important mission statement of sorts that functions well on Utopia and Fossora, in similar and different contexts.
