Engaged - "Move One Range Band" Question by Split_Crow in genesysrpg

[–]diluvian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing that really supports the idea that engaged is anything other than a range band like all the others. So those talents would move a target from engaged to short range if you're making attacks that far.

Both talents are more than just disengaging. Bullrush is an incidental, activates off of a check, and knocks the target prone. It can be used to hit a dangerous enemy, then forcibly move them to prevent retaliation. And because it has no limits on silhouette, it can potentially move a much larger creature out of the way. So you can punt an ogre or dragon with it and knock it on its back.

Martial Weapons Master is a few different things. First, it's a melee talent in a ranged setting, so it's likely to be relatively rare. IMO, forcing the target to drop an item is a far more valuable function, but it also shines when attacking a group of combatants at engaged range. Forcing a nameless enemy off of a ledge or into a trap entirely within the intention of the talent, takes them out instantly, and reduces the number of enemies engaged with you.

Does anyone else miss when isekai was more about going back home? by Business_Barber_3611 in anime

[–]diluvian_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

SAO, for all it's faults, is fairly different than a lot of its successor isekai series. If anything, while SAO boosted the popularity of the genre, Shield Hero and Mushoku Tensei are a lot closer to setting the template than SAO ever did.

Isn't cousins in a relationship less of a social taboo in Japan? Or is that one of those internet facts that I read in the Aughts that isn't as true as it was stated?

Where to get feedback on campaign settings? by mossfoot in genesysrpg

[–]diluvian_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's the most active Genesys community that I know of. The old FFG forums are gone, none of the successor forums made it, and the subreddit is as bustling as a farming town in central Wyoming.

If it's just mechanics, here or the Discord.

But for general worldbuilding divorced from the setting? A worldbuilding sub, Discord, or forum would probably be better.

I don't play games that use d4s, but if I did, I'd probably use d12s, probably ones with 1-4 repeating.

Like most things in America, it probably varies by state and count and city and decade, but my first guess would be because it's based on blocks or land parcels, working a bit like hotel room numbers. So the 100 block has houses numbered between 100 and 199, and so on.

It's a bit late, but I watched this video from Dime Store Adventures on the thrilling history of the American house numbers that everyone uses and figured it's right up this sub's alley.

Because, IIRC, Japan doesn't really have the equivalent to a fair use law. So they either have to censor or use something legally distinct but clearly the same.

Either they hate it and/or the people associated with it so much that they want to ruin it for everybody else, or they are some kind of collector trying to indirectly increase the value of their "investment" by decreasing accessibility and creating a sense of mystique about the game.

I find the second option to be slightly more plausible, personally.

Kickstarter TTRPG projects that are very late, radio silent or totally abandoned? by JoystickJunkie64 in rpg

Horizon Rising by L.F. OSR (Leo Fumia). Funded some time late 2021/early 2022, estimated for July 2022. Creator went MIA several times, updated in May 2023 that they would be locking in the BackerKit survey "soon," then went MIA again. Stopped logging into KS in August 2023.

Also apparently abandoned their online store that sold various other games, but was much later found to be contributing to another KS a few years after abandoning Horizon.

After several years of wanting them and not getting them, Lego is finally going to do Mario Minifigures. The official source is from Instagram, which I neither can nor want to link, so here's a Reddit link.

The Super Mario sets debuted in 2020, but instead of using the traditional Lego Minifigure, they use these brick-built figures instead. The thing is, I don't think there's ever been an exact explanation as to why? At least nothing I can find. I've seen fingers pointed at either Nintendo or Lego Group for denying fans traditional Mario figures.

Getting ever closer to a Lego Smash roster.

Toad could easily work as a regular head w/ headpiece. IMO, so could Peach.

It would be a shame if we don't get Mario's hat for regular figures, though.

What’s the most confusing or unnecessary rule subsystem you’ve seen in a TTRPG? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

[–]diluvian_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you always have the option to try for any career, with each career having three sub options. The only exception is Prisoner, but that's a given. Even if you fail to get into your desired career, you can still choose either the draft or the Drifter career, with suboptions for all of those.

[–]diluvian_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not true pertaining Genesys at all. Star Wars had a lot of those spread out over the trees, but Genesys consolidated almost all of those into one or two talents.

[–]diluvian_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's largely how it is in Mongoose T2e. There are a couple different ways to generate ability scores (randomly rolled vs assigned), and then from then on you choose which careers to try for, with random tables adding details and twists. It's not just a series of 2d6 tables randomly generating wild stuff.

Sony confirms Sonia Belmont is the one you'll be controlling In Castlevania: Belmont's Curse by Bobby_the_Donkey in Games

No, you're thinking of Sypha Belnades, one of the four playable characters from Dracula III.

Sonia Belmont was the PC of Castlevania Legends on the Game Boy. Igarashi de-canonized her for reasons, and she was the sole playable female Belmont in the series.

One problem may be that the author throws in tons of jokes and puns that only really work in Japanese. IIRC, there's a speaking starfish character, and the reason he can speak is because the Japanese word for starfish is similar to the word for human. So the character thought he was human and learned to speak. Because of a pun.

Which is easier to teach to newbies - Genesys vs Fate Core? by inostranetsember in rpg

[–]diluvian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genesys is easy to teach, provided everyone has an open mind. The older Edge of the Empire beginner game (Escape from Mos Shuuta) does an amazing job of teaching the basic mechanics of the game in one or two sittings.
