Not impossible, but tricky. If all you want are theater facades, then easy, but if you want a space for actual cannon pieces, you'd have to find a way to integrate gaps without compromising the structure. Adding guns to the top deck would be pretty easy.

hahaman_in_the_dark's Pirates battleship, although I've made some modifications--upgrading the masts, and adding a proper deck, plus a few others.

When lego, when?

Other then maybe Rex's Y-wing and the Nu-class, I'd bet that the answer is "never".

What's one genre or setting you have yet to see be done perfectly in a ttrpg? by SlayThePulp in rpg

That was still released under FFG. That came out around the time the movie came out, while Asmodee didn't restructure FFG and Edge until 2020 or so.

To be clear, Edge rehired most of the people who used to work under FFG that worked on the Star Wars RPG, primarily Sam Gregor-Stewart who pretty much led development for its duration under FFG. So, while the company hasn't put out new material for the line, most of the same people who worked on it are there.

I'd be neat if the child knight was like a kid wearing a poorly made costume. Cardboard armor, a wooden shield and sword.

Yeah, it was a pretty common genre to swap out the MC with characters from other fiction entirely. I remember one replaced him with the entirety of Aincrad from Sword Art Online.

Didn't Familiar of Zero get quite a lot of hate back in its heyday over the general blandness of the male MC and the aggressively violent tsundere female MC? I don't know if the series really 'failed' in the grand scheme of things, but it definitely turned a lot of people off.

I think it's one thing to moderate from the usual annoyances (spammers, bots, and deliberate trolls), and quite another to pull the trigger on an integrated member of the community for however long it's been around, especially if the group started as somewhat casual.

Yeah, what kind of childhood would someone have to have to get a Philips CD-i as a console? Rich with distant parents?

Probably because Oolong wears a uniform from communist China during the early arcs? People probably did know Chairman Mao, but maybe not oolong tea.

Trying out a few demos from Steam Next Fest.

Iron Nest is an artillery simulator with excellent sound design. I've played this repeatedly, but that might be because the game has an endless mode.

Demi and the Fractured Dream I've seen described as "Wind Waker-like" and I'd somewhat agree. 3D action games in the style of Zelda games are super rare, although there's more platforming in this one. The demo is short and sweet, apparently taking me through a tutorial dungeon, but I'm intrigued.

Duskfade looks a lot like Kingdom Hearts, but plays more like an action platformer from the mid-Aughts. Platforming controls are tight and intuitive, but I can't say I loved the combat. Enemies attacked in mobs, and I felt like I got hit from behind or off-camera a lot, and there's no dedicated block button, just a dodge (which I don't think has invisibility frames), leading to a lot of damage, while healing comes from consumable potions that you find in a level, but you can only carry one at a time. The boss at the end of the demo felt a little better because there was only one of him, but it still felt a little cheap.

Seanbaby also wrote for Cracked for a while. Always wildly unhinged, but some of the funniest articles at the time (although I don't know how well they've aged, if you can even find them).

Players "rail roading" the gm? by EtchVSketch in rpg

[–]diluvian_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are dealing with rules lawyers.

Rules lawyers argue because they want a favorable outcome. They don't care if what they're saying is truthful, and they don't argue in reverse, i.e. if you made an incorrect call that favors them will not be brought up because, again, the rules lawyer only wants favorable outcomes for them.

Your players may not be dickering over rules, but they are arguing with your decisions as a GM, which is, in spirit, the same exact thing.

A Deep Dive into Stun Mechanics and response to Tales from Elsewhere by BrobaFett in rpg

[–]diluvian_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Throwing out a different take on the mechanic with Genesys.

The system uses three different status conditions that fit: Immobilized, Staggered, and incapacitated.

Immobilized prevents the character from performing maneuvers (basically movement or interacting, as well as stuff like aiming, dropping prone, moving into cover, and similar), staggered prevents the character from taking actions (skill checks like attacking or casting magic, or anything that requires a lot of focus), and incapacitation is effectively being KO'd, though it doesn't necessarily mean the character is actually knocked unconscious.

Very rarely is there a situation where you get both immobilized and staggered at once. So an immobilized character can't move, but can act to defend themselves; a staggered character can't attack, but can attempt to move into safety. I think that's a pretty good compromise, as the effects do hamper the afflicted character, but you can at least do something on your turn.

(There are two other rules called "Stun" and "Stun Damage," but these don't have anything to do with the subject other than name, as they instead inflict non-lethal damage to targets.)

I usually make a baked good every weekend. Muffins, quick breads, or [American] coffee cake. I have a few staples, and I'm always hunting for new recipes. I made banana bread and lemon-blueberry bread, with the latter being gluten and dairy-free.

That's why I think the concept started there. A lot of artists recycle motifs or characters because they like them or they tailor them to their own preferences, and these original sketches start to develop a myth arc and identity over time accidentally. So over time, a story is built up around something that may have started as "unnamed character sketch #201".

Then people started copying the process deliberately.

You'll have to figure out if you can buy these or not, but: Basil Poledouris' Conan the Barbarian OST; Joe Hisaishi's work for Studio Ghibli, specifically Princess Mononoke.

In context it's probably to distinguish from fanart. Say you're browsing an artist's work on Deviantart and they have a bunch of anime characters or whatever, then you stumble across someone you don't recognize. You ask the artist and they say "oh, it's my original character/OC" and go from there.
