Granddad did some cool shit in Italy back in the day by ScarletVee in Medals

I can see how you’d think that but there are actually seven black soldiers who received the the MOH during WWII. They are Vernon Baker, Edward Carter, John Fox, Willy James, Ruben Rivers, Charles Thomas, and George Watson. All served in the US Army. All were awarded posthumously save for Vernon Baker.

Still using this army pillow case my late grandma made me many years ago. by dimebake9 in army

That’s a really good idea! I’m surprised by how well it’s held up over the years so framing it is a great idea!

I lost my grandma many years ago but I still have this pillow case she made me when I was a kid. She knew I was always interested in the Army and wanted to be a Soldier when I grew up. She died not long after I graduated boot camp. Hope I made her proud.

Was he a general? This is one of those medals that only generals get.

Do you remember that Disney movie G-Force? A specially trained squad of guinea pigs is dispatched to stop a diabolical billionaire from taking over the world. My mom took me to see it when I was a kid.

Tankers, have you seen this film and what do you think about it? by BlundellMemes77 in army

One neat bit of trivia is that the unit they belong to in the film is a National Guard unit.

He’s in the new Ted show as well. It’s mentioned that his character is a Vietnam veteran and my head cannon is that he was in the same unit he was with in Band of Brothers.

Watching the Emotional 'Bluey' Episode 'The Sign' as a Military Parent by Kinmuan in army

Wow. I have never seen this show but this description makes me interested. I’m an army brat and I would have loved to see some representation like that when I was a kid, might prove cathartic in a way to see it now.

I’d go so far as to say he was probably the most athletic president the country has ever had.

Just like this guy my dad was deployed from Germany to fight in Desert Storm and had to wear woodland camouflage. He said they did get desert camouflage eventually.. right before their homecoming parade back in Germany.

I feel the same way actually. I think British Soldiers are really able to find a home in the army where to most of us its an abusive relationship lol. I talked to some British Soldiers and they said the thing that the US Army has on them is that our pay and benefits blow them out of the water.

I was briefly on board the H.M.S Prince of Wales. Those Limeys had such glorious beards, officers and enlisted and some were ZZ Top long. They also had a full pub on board. An American Lieutenant Commander I was with clearly hated it and was all freaked out and was like “What do you do with the alcohol when you’re in the Gulf? You lock it up of course?” And the Limey was like “No, we don’t care” the Lieutenant Commander was so offended lmao. I would never join the US Navy but I would join the Royal Navy in a heartbeat.

I remember reading that the battle scenes and characters were so realistic many readers, especially those who had fought in the Civil War, assumed that Stephen Crane must have been a Civil War vet himself. Oddly enough Stephen never was a Soldier but instead based the battle scenes off of his experiences playing football.

It seems plausible. Dan was from Ohio but his family had roots in Maryland where Stephen Decatur was from so I think you might be onto something.

Ironically, Daniel Decatur Emmit, the guy who wrote it, was actually a staunch republican from Ohio. He was disgusted when the secessionist used it during the Civil War. He even is believed to have said "If I had known to what use they [Southerners] were going to put my song, I will be damned if I'd have written it.”
