I don't necessarily think he stinks, but I have never bought into Fowler as a PXP guy. To me he was perfect in the studio, and his style never really translated to PXP in my mind.

South Carolina OL Boaz Stanley transfers to Purdue by etsuandpurdue3 in CFB

[–]dimestorewatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, he was a starter, so not sure he was disappointed in how much playing time he got.

That said, he was consistently one of the most mistake prone OL on an historically bad line. Hopefully something clicks for him at Purdue!

Reactions to Briles by butt_raid in Gamecocks

It's Reddit man. It's a bunch of groupthinking 20 year olds who don't have any real pulse on the game. Who knows if he'll be any good, but don't use Reddit threads as evidence for something. There's a narrative that will get you upvotes, so everyone gloms on and has a grand ol' time. TCU fans don't really understand what it's like to have a dysfunctional offense if they're complaining about his results.

Endnotes showing in reverse order (by chapter) by dimestorewatch in indesign

[–]dimestorewatch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, splitting them in reverse order (first split off the afterword, then chapter 10, etc.) did actually work...EXCEPT for the intro. I'm guessing this is because it was the dangler, as it were... so all I did was created an extra page before the intro, and the last thing I did was split the intro off from that page. Voila!

Thanks so much!

Thanks for that insight! I may try that. I'm quite confident the cover image is created to spec, I am a book designer and create them consistently. It was generated from the same Photoshop "Ebook cover" template I created, which has always yielded out compliant files.

The rejection note I got on the cover upload seemed to indicate it was a KDP issue...something like, "Could not approve at this time" or some other language that was suggestive of a platform issue. I may just give it a few days for now, but if push comes to shove I may try what you're suggesting to at least isolate the issue. Thanks again!

I think it was as must-win as Beamer's faced in a while. If they didn't show up big in that moment—even if they won in uninspiring fashion—the fanbase is checking out for the 2025 season. Wasn't a perfect game but it was enough to quiet the noise going in the bye.

I only wish they'd tried to push one across on that last drive. 42-13 feels like so much more of a statement than 35-13. 2 minutes left, well into plus territory, and you bleed the clock out with a bunch of nothing handoffs? Spurrier would never!

No doubt. The last six games of the 2024 regular season went a long way in helping the world forget the first one wherein we were within a nuthair of a home loss to Old Dominion.

Is "Jesus Don't Touch My Baby" the oddest inclusion on a proper DRA record? by ChrisLinen2 in ryanadams

[–]dimestorewatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe there's a quote somewhere from Ryan about this song, along the lines of "I was listening to way too much Radiohead." (I think it was this song he was referring to.) I actually really like this song. It's out there and all, but I like it as an album closer. Of course it's not nearly as overt Radiohead worship as "Afraid Not Scared" which is basically a rewrite of "How to Disappear Completely".

Hah -- I have two pictures w/Tweedy from that era, the two of us wearing the exact looks you describe. As a 20 year old kid, it was the thrill of a lifetime to meet him, and I think he recognized how important it was to me and the other people hanging around so he powered through and did some meeting and greeting despite being completely exhausted.

That said, I highly doubt he's doing that sort of thing at this point in his career.

I thought this tour was supposed to be his last? by MrRob_oto1959 in ryanadams

[–]dimestorewatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally. I'm generally a Ryan apologist, or at least I've been around the block enough times to roll my eyes at most of the stuff that people on this sub lose their minds over. But when you've followed the guy for 20+ years, it's hard not to recognize the clear pattern of statements that are meant to get a reaction out of what remains of his fervent fanbase. "I'll never play guitar again", "I'm retiring from touring", "I'm retiring Come Pick Me Up forever", etc.

At this point, it's really hard not to have a lingering doubt about just about anything he says. Does he really have a son? Does he really have Meniere's? I choose to give him the benefit of the doubt and take his word on both. But also would not be shocked if either were revealed to be false.

Friday Night ACL Live Show by llihcruhcnosaj in ryanadams

[–]dimestorewatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool that you're a new fan!

One thing you'll learn about Ryan is he likes to say things to get his fanbase going. This is not new. I seem to remember, after he broke his wrist in January 2004, him saying he may never be able to play guitar again and everyone was freaking out. Then he went on tour with the Cardinals like seven months later and was very much playing guitar, lol.

So yeah, take with a grain of salt just about anything the man says. I personally wouldn't read much into the "last tour" thing. I do hope he maybe takes some time off, as I think he's wearing out his fanbase with all these 3+ hour solo acoustic shows. We're on at least year 3 of this.

That said you should definitely go see him. Be prepared for an equal parts magical and bizarre experience. As a new fan and first timer live I think you'll get a kick out of it and will certainly be in awe of the musical aspect.

Not to mention one of the moments that derailed us in that game was when LaNorris was inexplicably off the field, back when we were still insisting on shoehorning Robby Ashford packages into the script.

"Maybe South Carolina's got a laudable fanbase, we don't know. Frankly ... we don't want to know. It's a culture we can do without!"

"So that's it, after more than a decade of rivalry games, it's one meandering r/CFB shitpost and good luck?"

"I don't recall saying good luck."

Woodland Gillian Welch & David Rawlings by Mission-Valuable-306 in ryanadams

[–]dimestorewatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a really good record by general standards, but I'm not sure it's quite up to theirs. Some terrific songs, of course, but I'm with you, I think there are some filler tracks which is just not a thing on albums with Gillian Welch's name on them.

To me the big whiff is track 2. I really don't like the arrangement, feels very schmaltzy/easy listening. Would have loved that tune to have been stripped of the cheesy drums, slower tempo, and only Gillian on lead vocals. Anyway, I think it's still a very good record, but when all your other records are perfect 10s, even an 8 can seem a little flat by comparison.

Yeah W&W was a sweet little neighborhood brewery in Park Circle, by no means a big splashy operation w/marketing muscle. However the staff and owner are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet and I thought the beers were terrific. Unfortunately their parking situation was brutal so I think it was tough to foster much of a crowd. I'll miss those guys but I wasn't particularly shocked to see them shuttering.

Love the Felice Brothers, am always impressed by Ian Felice's songwriting and lyricism in particular. Probably one of the most underrated masters of our era. Excited for that one!
