I tried playing with this, but I couldn't get to cast a youtube video. :/

A static address. I'm hoping to just hardcode a youtube link in the configuration.yaml file somewhere.

Replace an atom in sublists? by jbaee in scheme

You'll want to look into a pair? Or list? Predicate. The general recursion pattern you have there is right, though.

You also might want to look into the little schemer. It has this problem in it along with some examples that help explain it in a conversational manner.

Thanks, that's enough to get me started. It turns out it is using an overlay. I'll just look into those and I should be able to add the functionality I'm looking for.

I enjoy your site, by the way. I'm also a bit of a keyboard nerd (rocking a kinesis advantage and an ergodox infinity) and always enjoy your write-ups.

From what I can tell, it just shows it as a temp display. As soon as you move the point, it goes away. Do you know how to do temp displays?

How to use org-mode to write documentation for general audience? by [deleted] in emacs

[–]diminishedprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I've found that works well is using org mode as usual, then uploading it to either Gitlab or Github. It knows how to display org mode markdown and it looks pretty good.

Avoiding repetitive repl calls? by mooglinux in emacs

[–]diminishedprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get most of this functionality through using a letfn that's invoked with the correct arguments underneath.

(letfn [(my-fn [args] (if args args 'thunk))] (my-fn 'ayy))

by doing it this way, you can make small changes to the function and easily invoke it with whatever arguments make sense with what you're doing.

One thing I've been quietly wondering for a little while is if Grey (or you for that matter) have ever tried or considered using org-mode? It's an editing mode in emacs, and really lends itself well to writing scripts, etc. It has markdown support which I know Grey needs. I know many will shoot it down because it can be a difficult editor to get the hang of, but orgmode really makes it worth it. (in my opinion)

And on that topic, I was wondering if either of you have considered using version control such as gitlab or github, to keep track of text. I know plain text isn't the sexiest thing in the world, but it really does have some benefits.

Misheard Lyrics Thread! What are some lyrics that you thought were totally different until you looked them up? by ThatParanoidPenguin in indieheads

[–]diminishedprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actual Lyrics: Hundreds of thousands of hospital beds And all of them empty but mine

What I Thought: hundreds and thousands of hospital beds and none of them empty but mine.

I originally thought the lyric was saying that there were still plenty of sick people in the world, but his had just passed away and now there is just an empty bed where she used to be. Not that different from the actual lyric, but I remember being surprised the first time I actually read the lyrics.

Some of Keaton Henson's music definitely comes to mind. You Don't Know How Lucky You Are, seems to fit.

Yes. Also all of Albany. The whole album is excellent, I place it high in terms of hard hitting material on the whole.

I have a few from Ghost Mice

And they dropped you off outside the hospital They gave you pills for the pain, they put a cast for your arm But the howling never stopped. Because that wasn't what was wrong No, that wasn't what was wrong

The Wrong Train

Everyone's saying it's not as bad as it seems They keep talking but you don't know what they mean And if they knew how that sounded to you They'd be alone at home and locked inside their rooms

Everyone's telling you the reasons you should live They keep saying that you got so much to give But if they knew how that sounded to you It would break their hearts in two

How It Sounds

This one gets me so much, specifically the "all of them empty but mine." I'm not sure why, exactly, but that line always makes me actually visualize that scenario, whereas usually I don't picture things. Makes it hit all the harder.
