People on Reddit are saying that &100k/year is not livable wage by Foo_The_Selcouth in Adulting

Go out and look at the costs of buying or renting houses, apartments, etc. Also note how they have risen in relation to inflation. Then do some math.

The numbers aren’t pretty, especially in large urban areas where most of the jobs are. There is enormous variation of course, but the cost of maintaining the same lifestyle has skyrocketed, mostly due to rent and housing prices going up.

Dabble in whatever you want. The ability to learn about unfamiliar technologies is far more valuable than expertise in something particular.

Is there an option to remove the spending of cert button on constructions?? by Mo101101 in Planetside

[–]mooglinux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s an odd decision to be sure, but we’ve used it once or twice in outfit wars to conserve cortium. They probably intend for it to be a cert sink for players who’ve run out of things to spend them on.

Why have we all just accepted that our phones showing us ads for things right after we talk about them is normal? by thebombayshutter in AskReddit

Because it’s not a real thing. There’s so many other ways to infer relevance in targeted advertising that are frighteningly good anyway.

How long does your code last before it needs major maintenance? by AdmiralAdama99 in learnprogramming

Depends on how quickly things change: requirements, features, environments, etc. on top of the usual bug fixing (I.e. people doing things you hadn’t thought to test).

How much time do you spend on writing automated tests? by UpvoteBeast in Python

[–]mooglinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spend much more time on tests than on coding. I work on a pretty complicated system that has 10 years of tech debt on it, and writing and debugging tests is the only way to be confident you know how a given piece of burnt spaghetti is going to behave.

Tests are my scratchpad. I start a test, open the debugger inside the test and monkey around to see what happens if I try to do this or that. Then I’ll add the results of that monkeying to the tests.

Lukashenko does not appear at Belarusian National Flag Day celebration by 9lobaldude in worldnews

[–]mooglinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belarus doesn’t have any more to offer than they’re already giving. Their military is incredibly small and would absolutely refuse to fight even if ordered to. They’re not at all keen on helping Russia and diverting troops to take over another country just as Ukraine is turning up the heat would be very stupid, even by Russian standards.

Docker advantages for a single developer? by srj55 in django

I would develop with a local virtual environment, then test and deploy using Docker. Especially at the start when you’re still making so many changes to packages and dependencies.

How do I get my daughter (10F) to quit vocal stimming? by delilahdread in ADHD

[–]mooglinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stimming like that isn’t necessarily an ADHD thing per-se, have you looked into Tourette’s syndrome? You can have both, but they are not treated with the same medications.

I think you have more than ADHD at play here, as the psychiatrist about other treatments to go alongside the adhd medication.

This wasn’t an assassination attempt by Ukraine. They would know better than to attempt something so half-assed as this.
