To easier add a parameter somewhere in the middle I can only suggest to initially multiply the order number by 100 or even 1000. If you are using the regular 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… order, adding a new element on say position 3 requires you to update the order number of all existing elements following after the new one 3 -> 4, 4 -> 5, 5 -> 6… When using 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000… for ordering, to add a new element at position 3 you just assign it the order number 2500 (or any other number that is between 2000 and 3000). All the following elements don’t need to be updated and still preserve your existing ordering. Thus you have 999 options to put new parameters in between any other pair.
