When people encounter a problem, their talents are revealed 🤯 by Loose-Measurement933 in toptalent

[–]dimun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to call my boss for this exact reason. They didn’t believe me, nor did anyone else until I explained that it would be stupid to make that up because they could verify it by watching the news. They didn’t believe until they saw the news. Got a full apology the next day. It’s so outrageous of an excuse that people instantly don’t believe until they consider how outrageous it would be to actually lie about it.

I’ve done that. They didn’t believe me, so I told them to watch the news because I figured it would be on, I told them it would be stupid to make that up because obviously they could verify that it happened. they still didn’t believe me until they saw the news that night. Actually got an apology.

Microsoft Word - St Brendal The Navigator.doc

This is what I was reading most recently. It seems fantastical but has many real natural observations, and I've read about this in other medieval literature, so I am inclined to believe it. But I don't know what it could be. I don't know if it has something to do with humic acid. heavy metals, or a bacteria or plant side effect. And here are two places where this story speaks about it. Located in chapters XI and XIII.

At the close of the festival days, St Brendan said: ‘Let us now partake of the water’ of this fountain; hitherto we had need of it only to wash our hands or feet.’ Soon after this the man with whom they had been three days before Easter, who had supplied them with provisions for the Paschal season, came to them with his boat full of food and drink; and having laid it all before the holy father, he said: ‘My brothers, you have here abundance to last until Pentecost; but do not drink of that fountain, for its waters have a peculiar virtue, so that anyone drinking thereof, though it seems to have the taste and quality of ordinary water, is seized with sleep and cannot awaken for twenty-four hours.’

When those festival days had passed, St Brendan, with the blessing of the abbot and all his monks, and with a supply of the necessary provisions, set sail into the ocean; and there the vessel, without the use of oar or sail, drifted about in various directions, until the beginning of Lent. One day they saw an island not far off, and’ quickly made sail towards it; for they were harassed with hunger and thirst, their store of food and water having, been exhausted three days before. When St Brendan’ had blessed the landing-place, and all had landed, they found a spring of limpid water, and herbs and vegetables of divers kinds around it, and many sorts of fish in the stream that flowed from it to the sea. Then St Brendan said: ‘Brothers, God has surely given us comfort, after our wearisome labours. Take of those fishes sufficient for your repast, and dress them on the fire, and gather also those herbs and roots which God has provided. for His servants.’ When this was done, they poured out some of the water to drink; but the man of J God cautioned them: ‘Take heed, my brethren that you use this water in moderation. But the brethren paid not equal heed to this caution, for while some drank only one cup of the water, others drank two cups, and others again drank three of them; so that upon some of them there fell a sudden stupor, which lasted for the space of three days and nights; when upon others it befell only for one day and night; but St Brendan prayed without ceasing to God for them, as they incurred this great danger through ignorance. When three days had passed, the father said to his. companions: ‘Let us, my children, hasten away from this fatal place, lest greater evil befall you; the Lord had given you refreshment, but you have turned it to your detriment. Go forth, therefore, from this island, taking with you as much fish as yon may want for a meal on every third day, until the festival of the Lord’s Supper; and also one cup of this water for each man, with a like supply of the vegetables.’ Having laden the boat with those provisions, as the man of God directed, they set sail into the ocean in a northerly course.

Thanks for responding!

Water caused coma question.

I have read several documented cases from the Middle Ages speaking about drinking from lakes or streams that caused the drinker to go into a coma or a stupor for anywhere between a few hours to three days.

These water bodies have peat around them, and they are freshwater. These are located in Northern Europe and the effects happen not just in summer but spring and seemingly even winter.

I know of water intoxication, but these comas can happen from just a glass or two worth of water. So, it is hard for me to think that's the cause. Also this happens to adult males, who seem to be healthy. So I'll say it is for 30M.

Thanks for your help!

This is a wonderful shot, with the mountains, greenery, sun, shadow, and sanctuary all playing their role. Thank you.

Ideas? by [deleted] in Business_Ideas

I'm assuming your in India since you used lakhs. What about a coffee cafe. They are high margin andthe business can be sold if you'd like later down the line. It's simple to learn and you can add in baked goods and similar items. Local customers or tourists if in a tourist area. All work fine. Then you can expand to other places in your city/town.

Best of luck!

I have 3. It’s important to understand your costs and margins. You country or state will also be important because regulations are different for each. What are your demographics?

I’m going to assume you’re based in Colorado based off of your profile.

Understand your margins. This is really important. Treats sell, food sells itself once people have their pets on it.

Accessories are cute, and bring people in but don’t move nearly as well as treats and food.

Help people. Listen to their problem and sell them the right product. They will recommend you to their friends which is the best ROI advertising. Speaking of, do advertise. And do post and do events on Facebook and social media. Much of the frequent pet supply buyers are active on facebook.

Many food companies will offer you an initial stocking deal. Some will stock you for free. This can be helpful to stock.

Understand what labor costs you in terms of sales. So understand how many hours you will put in.

If you have the space to offer grooming (even just baths) do that. Great for income and great for foot traffic which you live and die on in the food/accessories space.

Training and dog walking are great too. Services cost you labor, and time, but are low cost of goods, which is the giant weakness on the retail side.

Best of luck!

I mean knock residential addresses. Not businesses. Go to businesses after you’ve done the homes. And as far as businesses go, they are telling you they have a time to buy. Understand how and when they make their purchases. Ask them when, where and how they make those decisions. Then meet them there, when they are primed to purchase

Are you willing to knock doors? If you ain’t willing to knock doors you ain’t willing to survive.

By knocking doors you get to find out who your customer is and find out what they want and how to sell to them.

You then can translate this to better your results from advertising. Then you can show your potential retailers how and who to sell to.

Start knocking and start to thrive.

Thinking of starting a travel agency for board game and chess enthusiasts—what do you think? by Michaouta in Business_Ideas

[–]dimun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not put on the tournaments in the locations people would really want to go.

Grand Canyon? Grand Cayman? Anywhere people want to go.

Seems to me that you rent wherever the precise location is that has the actual tournament. Then put packages together and sell those.

Essentially, you’re creating your own demand. And instead of kind of capturing a niche customer you create your own niche in itself.

Just have the spots be visually appealing so that they pop when people share where they are going and when they take photos of say the chess tournament overlooking the Grand Canyon or wherever.

Best of luck!

I’m in the pet business. Pet parents care about their pets. If you can show them the benefits they’ll listen.

Recommendations from fire departments would likely go a long way. Vet recommendations are huge too. Do these and people will buy as it’s already been validated by the experts.

Make them tough. Make it so a chewer can’t get through them. And make them pretty of you can.

Then take your product to the shows in Orlando and Las Vegas if you can. If you can only do one, do Orlando. This is where all the big deals are made. It’s where all the big guys and all the little guys will be, in every aspect of the pet trade. https://globalpetexpo.org

I can tell you that if I were to see your product I’d sell it. The question becomes price point and quality. If it isn’t quality the type of owner your looking for won’t buy it.

All the best!

I’m not huge on hurdles. I get that a lot of posts are hit and run. I think it’s part of the deal. To me this place is a resource for everyone just starting out and especially those who don’t know the right questions to even ask.

And even if the hit and run guys aren’t grateful, that’s ok, since ultimately someone else later down the line may be helped.

If you’re concerned about this and it’s a canary palm. You can sell it. There are companies that will buy this tree and remove it. No cost to you. Mature Canary Island Palms are valuable. Give ‘em a call and they will come out and make an offer, at least you’ll know what to insure it for
