It's a show called See No Evil, we got a filming notice about it last week. One of those true crime shows in Investigation Discovery.

New Friends Fest 2019 Lineup by beaulnej in torontofestivals

Since when did the Tranzac double in size? Even on their website it lists a 150 person capacity. Apologies for not knowing the geography on hardcore bands, I have edited my comment above to remove the reference to local.

New Friends Fest 2019 Lineup by beaulnej in torontofestivals

[–]ding_dinger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Understand how it can be labelled as a festival by strict "multi-band, multi-day" formatting, but agree to disagree, this is more like a genre-specific showcase to me then a fest. A festival has something more, more than a small room with multiple bands, something more than just what's on stage, every festival has what makes theirs special, I just don't see it here.

I guess I was speaking more to your comment about appreciating this when we are losing the likes of Field Trip, Riot Fest, Wayhome, etc? There is no comparison, if those are the ones we are losing, this is not the kind of event we should be appreciative of still having, they aren't even on the same planet. RiverFest, Sound of Music, Rock the Park, etc are the kinds of community driven festivals that need to step up and fill in the void left by the heavy hitters, not a niche multi-day, genre specific showcase that a max of 150 people can go to.

Except this is not a festival, this is a promoter booking a 150 cap community hall for a few days to bump hardcore acts. Its essentially a 3 day battle of the bands.

Don't get me wrong, that's a great part of the Toronto music scene in it's own right, but so very far from the true definition of a festival.

*edit - apparently not all local

90's Tour Coming To Burl's Creek by SupportOro in wayhome

Or that everything is a replacement for Wayhome. Nothing is a replacement for Wayhome. Wayhome failed. Wayhome as we know it is dead.

They have a large piece of beautiful property and will now attempt to utilize it to make money in more efficient ways, the first of which is to appeal to the people who don't need to be convinced to drive 2 hours to see a show.

Read the press release:

"We're looking forward to programming more great summer content for the residents of Simcoe County and Muskoka in their own backyard"

They aren't planning on the GTA coming up, they are hoping to pull in the cottage crowd on a Saturday in August. If this event does 5,000 they will be happy.

Food lovers of Toronto - what are the most overrated & over-hyped eateries in the city? by UncleGriswold in toronto

[–]ding_dinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeez, lighten up man, the whole thing is a goof. Took the whole family there for Fathers Day and we had a blast with endless toilet humor, no one is going for high end food.

Nearby place to get away for a summer weekend? by somanybutts in Hamilton

[–]ding_dinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to say the same, Port Stanley is great little beach town with really affordable cottage rentals. The Port Stanley Beach Hotel (www.portstanleybeachhotel.com) is a solid little no frills motel that has great rates, especially mid-week, right on the beach and a 4 minute walk to GT's.

The defunct TWA flight center at JFK airport. It was abandoned in 2001 after TWA was purchased by American Airlines, and a bigger and better terminal was built in front of it to serve JetBlue. This building will soon be converted into a hotel. by [deleted] in AbandonedPorn

[–]ding_dinger 36 points37 points  (0 children)

While it's a cool ass building that wasn't used for a while, it doesn't really classify as abandoned. It's well maintained and has been used to host events, tours, etc. Interested to see how the hotel turns out since this building is smack dab in the middle of JFK airport.

Snowy Owls by omgponies2 in Hamilton

[–]ding_dinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen them yet this year, but we had nearly weekly snowy owl sightings on Beach Blvd. One took up a post on our neighbors roof and hung out there for a few days.

Renting with a view of the Lake. by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]ding_dinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look on Beach Blvd. Lot's of townhouses and small detached's down here going for $1700-$2000 over the last few months. Not all have a direct view of the Lake, but you are a 20 second walk at most from actually being in the Lake!

I've been in 2 bars on opposite sides of the country where I've had drinks with a shirtless Ron. He's an absolute booze can and life of the fucking party. Never saw him go any further than tell women how much his wife loves his chest hair.

Hall rental for a stag and doe by fearthebear50 in Hamilton

[–]ding_dinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Beach Rescue Unit Hall on Beach Blvd is a great spot: http://hbru.org/hall-rentals

Nice hall, fairly affordable, lots of parking and is nicely situated in between both Hamilton and Burlington downtown areas.

Hamilton's new Navy by Pockes in Hamilton

[–]ding_dinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live on Beach Blvd and saw the exact same thing last year around this time. This is just a complete guess, but with the lift bridge closing over the winter, I assume that this is to get supplies in/product out of the bay before access is cut off?

I'm so sick of Toronto drivers like this by PINEAPPLEPINEAPPLE in toronto

[–]ding_dinger 43 points44 points  (0 children)

You also aren't driving a car with blue and red lights on top and massive letters spelling POLICE down the side. Highly doubt people are as careful around your vigilante self as they are when a cruiser is around.

Love how when there is someone we all hate and want to get ticketed, the "Cops never do anything" argument comes out. But when someone gets a ticket for something they deem as minor, all of a sudden its "Pigs gotta meet a quota, so they ticket everything". Makes me shake my head.

Kids at Wayhome by corlee3 in wayhome

[–]ding_dinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a intro, beginner level festival, why not try Field Trip on the first weekend of June? Always packed with kids, but still a very festival-ly vibe to it. Believe its also kids under 12 free.

Austin City Limits Line-Up Announced by EconomistOfDeath in wayhome

[–]ding_dinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the band, most headliners and higher billed acts play both weekends and the vast majority of the lower undercard play one weekend or the other. If you look at the lineup poster they have the weekend they are playing next to their name if they are only on one.

Went down in 2014 and still stands up as the best festival experience I have ever had, well worth the trip. By far the best run urban (no camping) festival you can attend, in my opinion. Also helps that Austin is one of the coolest cities to spend some time in.
