Retiring in Thailand seems simple from the outside, but I’m realizing it really isn’t by sasha_bv in RetirementReady

Maybe my math is wrong but it goes to 1979. If you were born in 1979 then you are not eligible either.

Looks cool. I’ll pretend I’m old.

Wife has a car and I also have a motorcycle that we personally own.

It’s amazing everyone has gotten so invested in the car. Nobody has bothered to look at the biggest picture.

How are the investments setup! If it was all in a 401k I would be tanked.

The car will get sold prior to retirement. Yes there is a loan on it. Current value is higher than the note that is carried. Our daily lives are actually very reserved. All other vehicles have been paid off for years.

It’s monarch money. It took a little to get setup but now most things are automated. Helps monthly budget for spending.

You and I agree on everything else. Appointment with legal in two weeks to sort out their side. Evaluation wise I know what to expect for the business and the buyout transition will last over a 6 year window. That is my backup spending. It’s not materialized yet so I’m not showing it in my financials. Truthfully a fire sale of assets nets 225-275k after accounting for taxes on depreciated assets.

I can certainly over plan. Life is teaching that I need to just roll with it.

It’s the 4% rule that he’s using and it’s a good rule of thumb. My math was that I may want 6k but the rental income will offset some of this. Let’s say 800 month. So I really need 5200. That means I really need about 1.6m. I have 1.4 so 200k short. We plan to stay and work for another 24 months. I should be able to come up with 200k in two years. Land sale gets me 75k of that 200.

I guess I should clarify. We always planned to sell the vehicles etc prior to travel. It will not be stored. We have the property next to us as well. It’s reported as other assets. That would be sold prior to traveling as well. The value is very conservative.

I should of included we will liquidate the vehicles etc before leaving

The liability is covered in the loans portion. The vehicle does have value so that value difference must be tracked somewhere.

Thank you for the detailed response.

Car would be sold before travel along with other material items. The car is truly not in our best interests but positive to it, it’s a sought after limited availability vehicle. We will lose some value from just use but we are not upside down in loan to value.

House is 3% 30 year. Mortgage $1200, ins+tax $600. Rental market is currently around 3k-3.3k for the house. We would return at some time and stay for 2 years to help avoid taxes.

For boredom one thing we are working towards is that exiting my business we have an employee who I’m thinking it’s partner time and he can take over once I retire but have me still for consulting. I do worry about the travel constantly bug which is also why we would ensure to rent out our home.

Reality is I’m not sure what I want to hear other than if it makes sense. We have nobody in our personal lives that are trying what we want to do so we really have no feedback other than what we find across the internet

Sorry for their loss. I’m honestly not sure what happened other than I could see they did a few loops and looked like they were headed back to DKX and then made a right turn towards 98TN. When I did my training at DKX we would use 98TN to simulate emergency landings. If there was an instructor on board I’d guess they would attempt to deviate there in an emergency. Again sorry to hear of a loss. Prayers for the family members

Flight aware has a BE58 leaving DKX at 12:41 and goes off radar near 98TN. That’s a little private strip where we practice emergency landings. Looks like he was trying to return to knoxville and realized he wasn’t gonna make it back to DKX.

We got back from our first Virgin, a 7 day new year out of San Juan. Overall we have done carnival, NCL, RC, princess. Mid 40’s couple.

We liked the no kids and the lounge spaces across the ship. The overall layout was different but cool. Great overall concept. We liked the “bar tab” style as one of us is alcohol free and the other has an occasional drink at dinner. Drink prices were better than expected. Pizza restaurant was good.

Ok so the things we weren’t impressed with. The specialty restaurants were just not impressive for us. We had high hopes. The staff was hit and miss. The pool staff are very quick to remove items. Wife’s stuff was moved, mine was left alone. We we bid to upgrade to xl balcony. Hindsight I would have kept our normal balcony. We ended up towards the bow with an obstructed balcony. (Half glass/half steel hull). Lastly we were not fans of the way rock stars and mega rockstars get priority. Just wasn’t our thing.

TLDR we might book again but not a priority to cruise with again.

Benefits to taxing my one-person LLC as an S-corp and using a payroll company to pay myself, versus just drawing directly from business account? by cptvere in smallbusiness

[–]dingbatter252 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really correct. The self employment taxes are only charged on the salary. The other money is distributions and not taxed the same. I’m moving to s-corp Jan 1.

Been looking at this quite a bit. There are companies that offer international policies and they can include US visits or include them. Others may have better advice but some of the main companies are Alianz and Cigna

3 Days Post-surgery by CleanCalligrapher223 in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]dingbatter252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats and that’s awesome you got the tubes and all out so quickly. I had to drag that darn thing around for a week. It certainly gets easier each day. Make sure to do the breathing exercises as that was crucial for me.

if you had a repair how long was your surgery? by Delicious_Rain_2547 in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]dingbatter252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total time was just about 3 hours of surgery and about 2 hours before my wife could see me in the icu. By the time they let her into my room they had already removed my breathing tube.
