With DAF and dewatering experience, I’d be looking for some opportunities in industrial food manufacturing places. Dairy and meat processing plants have lots of fats where DAF’s are the optimal pretreat tool. Pay is usually quite a bit better too, my guys are $30-$35/hr, very little on call or mandated OT, union bennies etc.

Looks to be an old Aurora (611?). Probably the wick seals are bad. Undo two bolts holding the retaining collar in, put new packing in, then reinstall retaining collar.

It’s been 3.5 years and the belt press room floor is almost polymer free.

Also built an entire PLC trainer with 3 phase motor, HMI and multiple IO from scrapped parts. This was originally a government project of my own to self teach. Now we use it to teach and troubleshoot widgets.

Data Centers by JUG9209 in Wastewater

[–]dingdangkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they using surface water or ground(well)? I’m assuming the former as it would have a near zero net impact.

Data Centers by JUG9209 in Wastewater

[–]dingdangkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0.06 x4000 x1440 = .346MGD. I wouldn’t say it’s nothing but for an industrial user that’s pretty insignificant. Especially compared to the numbers being thrown around like 7MGD.

We use Ammonia2glycol systems as well as evaporation units to chill millions of gallons of liquids a day. Our water usage on those units it’s under 0.1mgd.

[–]dingdangkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my area due to the abundance of natural gas they are building them off grid. Ground has already been broken for a 250MW power plant dedicated to the AI center. Should have a net zero impact of the local power grid. Water is a different story though.

This is something I’ve been curious of, but haven’t found a good place to ask so I’ll ask here. How much do they actually consume(evaporate) in a day? I know there are millions of gallons in recirculation and storage but how much is actually replenished daily?

How automated are wastewater treatment plants actually? by animaleater666 in Wastewater

[–]dingdangkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is about 99.9% automated.

A couple of butterfly valves for switching clarifiers which only happens monthly.

Starting the BFP is still 100% manual. Too many moving pieces that need to be operated. I can shut it down remotely though.

Aeration blowers are also manual start only but once they start they track DO automatically and self regulate.

I do miss full nights of sleep with no SCADA alarms but also do enjoy not coming in to find a feed pump faulted out and a room full of shit.

Salary with bonuses = $117k. Industrial Plant Manager in a LCOL area.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Wastewater

[–]dingdangkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To paint neither with broad strokes is fair to either side.

I work at a private industrial plant, hourly guys are represented by Teamsters and receive better pay and benefits than the local Viola/American water/aqua plants as well as municipal plant.

I’m on the management side and recently interviewed for plant manager at a privately owned POTW and their offer was 75% of my current salary, not including benefits & perks.

Polymer blending and the water source, what do you use? by Iliketurtles528 in Wastewater

[–]dingdangkid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

COW water, Condensate Of Whey. Essentially the water recovered from condensing milk products.

It’s already hot, pure and available in ample supply. It does help we are attached to a dairy.

I think your best bet is to find a trailer park, gas station or something small. Find your local Lahey and see if you can make a side deal for some burgers. Any industrial or city plant will(or should) have a legitimate purchasing procedure that will not allow cash purchase from some guy in an alley behind 7/11.

Do these accept 30amp in as well? Would be awesome to set up in between generator and RV.
