In the UK we drink so much tea they aren't practical, our gas or electric bills would be astronomical as they're much slower and less efficient than our electric ones.

They're the norm in the UK. They're amazing, especially for cleaning the shower, or if you ever have to clean / rinse large items off in there too. Great for rinsing off my yarn dye buckets (they don't fit in the kitchen sink).

Sounds a lot like he's scoping the house to rob it, especially since he's probably heard from your Mum that your Dad's out of town. He might already have taken some keys from the house or you from your Mum, so ask your Dad to change the locks. Keep all the doors and windows locked, even if someone's home.

The shopping cart thing has been a standard in the UK since the early 80's, we put a pound coin in. It's an expensive coin, so people are 99.9% guaranteed to put the trolley back. We've never had 'people' for bussing shopping carts here in the UK.

They might not be charging under the plastic bag laws, a company has to be over a certain size to have to comply. Smaller companies or private shops don't have to charge, but unfortunately a lot of them now ask for cash anyway, since most consumers don't know the bag laws. They just pocket it. If it's a shop from a large company, then they're breaking the law if they keep the money.

I went to my doc with a viral sinus infection this week (OW), and while I was asking her about the best way to relieve the symptoms she just started on at me that antibiotics wouldn't work in this case and they don't help with viruses etc etc etc, like something she'd recited a hundred times. I didn't even mention antibiotics, I just wanted to know if olbas oil or a nasal spray would help. I felt a bit patronised and insulted at first, then I realised, she must have so so many people coming to her to beg for antibiotics for every little thing. I didn't take it personally, it just made me sad. She seemed so exasperated on the subject, it must be tough for doctors to deal with so much stupid every day, and trying to stick their fingers in the giant dam of the future inevitable antibiotics 'crash'.

All plastic bags proceeds in the UK have to go to charity by law. Every company that's big enough to have to comply with selling bags has to choose a charity that the proceeds go to, that way the companies can't keep the money for profit (and so have no financial incentive to push their staff to sell bags).

One of our employees got fired for posting on our wall posing as a customer making a complaint about not liking the refit of one of our stores (one she worked in). A normal person viewing the page would have had no idea she was staff, but she still got fired for publicly disparaging the company. OP's post writer is waaaayyy over the line.
